Job Description

General Purpose of Job: Utilizing high frequency sound waves, provide diagnostic images of a wide variety of exams (abdomen, Ob/Gyn, Vascular, small parts, neurosonography) to diagnose the absence or presence of disease. Responsible for providing patient education and quality patient care.

Essential Duties

This job description covers the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Analyze disease processes with the use of ultrasound through the selection of appropriate procedures and techniques.
  • Coordinate past and present medical history of patient in reference to ultrasound examination.
  • Schedule and instruct the patient in reference to ultrasound.
  • Review current imaging techniques and interpretations to ensure current information.
  • Furnish occasional immediate results to appropriate medical personnel derived from ultrasound procedure.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and quality assurance.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to sonography students completing clinical experience in the department.
  • Assist Radiologists and other physicians in the performance of interventional procedures.
Job Requirements
Work Experience
  • Minimum of one year working in a PACS environment.
  • Preferred: Previous ultrasound experience.
Education
  • Associates Degree in Sonography.
  • Must be certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in abdomen and Ob/Gyn or by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Sonography (ARRT(S)).
  • Certification in Vascular (RVT) or by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) must be obtained within one year of hire or transfer into the Sonographer Reg position. Caregivers prior to March 24, 2024, have the option to obtain the Vascular (RVT) or ARRT but are not required.
  • Must be CPR certified. Minimum of AHA Heart Saver certification or BLS required.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to perform requested procedures in a portable environment as needed.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements (visual and auditory).
  • Must be able to take on-call responsibilities, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work at multiple locations.
  • Ability to problem solve and multi-task.
  • Adept with customer service.
  • Effective communication with physicians.
  • Proficient in keyboard use for essential duties.
