Position Summary
Provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Acts as sonography section leader and represents ultrasonography to the Imaging Services Manager when considering equipment choices, technical issues, or personnel issues.
- Works closely with Radiologist to perform diagnostic sonographic exams.
- Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
- Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
- Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
- Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
- Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age-specific needs.
- Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
- Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately documented.
- Positions patient, equipment, associated devices, and manipulates technical factors to achieve high-quality images for interpretation.
- Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relevant anatomy is demonstrated.
- Complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks.
- Administers medical aid as required for emergency situations.
- Assists in supervising student sonographers and training new sonographers.
- Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination.
- Utilizes all Corporate Radiology computer systems effectively and accurately.
- Ensures safety of all customers.
- Directs and assists with daily workflow of the imaging team, including patient flow, supply ordering, staff assignments, and customer service issues.
- Plans and prioritizes exam scheduling and processing to support patient and physician needs.
- Participates in departmental projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Helps the manager in holding self and team accountable for producing quality images, detailed documentation, and charge management through the Quality Control Program.
- Orients and precepts staff.
- Participates on committees.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education/Training
Graduate of an accredited school of sonography and meets ARDMS eligibility guidelines.
Licensure/Certification
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through ARDMS.
- Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certificate.
- Maintains RDMS physics registry and three ARDMS registries.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience in sonography. Knowledge of routine ultrasound procedures, including invasive procedures such as biopsies, amniocentesis, thoracentesis, breast cyst aspiration, and breast localization, as well as Doppler, 3D/4D, and pediatric sonography.
