Job summary

OU Health in Oklahoma City is seeking a Cardiac Vascular Sonographer for PRN work to perform echocardiography and vascular ultrasound testing across OU Health locations, aiding providers in diagnosis and treatment. The role is intended for experienced imaging professionals who wish to work on an as-needed basis.

The position requires graduation from an accredited ultrasound program with emphasis in echo/vascular, ARDMS/ARRT/CCI certification, and at least 1 year of echo/vascular experience plus

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program with emphasis in echo and/or vascular as defined by ARDMS, ARRT and/or CCI.
• Completion of JRCERT accredited Military Educational Program accepted if it meets ARMDS/ARRT requirements.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic imaging on patients as ordered by a care provider under limited supervision.
• Ensures testing is performed safely with high quality standards and patient-focused care.
• Prepares patients for procedures and reviews clinical history.
• Transfers images/data to the electronic health system and prepares studies for physician reporting.
• Maintains equipment and performs QA checks per manufacturer instructions and accreditation standards.
• Serves as a preceptor and mentors new team members and participates in student teaching.
• Provides on-call coverage outside regular hours as assigned.

General Description:

The Cardiac Vascular Sonographer PRN is an experienced sonographer who provides specialized echo and/or vascular ultrasound testing to OU Health patients to aid Providers in the diagnosis, care, treatment and surveillance of simple to complex conditions, defects and/or diseases. This position is intended for experienced imaging professionals who wish to work on an as needed basis. Work may be performed in an outpatient or inpatient environment across OU Health locations.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Utilizes advanced skill set and knowledge to perform diagnostic imaging on patient as ordered by a care provider under limited supervision.

• Ensures testing is performed safely and with the highest quality standards, maintaining a consistent focus on patientcentric care.

• Prepares patients for procedures and reviews clinical history to align with provider-ordered tests.

• Responds to inquiries from patients and family members, provides clear information regarding diagnostic testing and expected result timelines.

• Collaborates with team members across OU Health including Providers to provide exceptional patient care.

• Utilizes a variety of highly specialized imaging and ultrasound equipment and techniques to perform diagnostic procedures in accordance with established scope of practice guidelines.

• Conducts post-testing quality reviews without assistance to confirm that all required elements are completed, documented and align with departmental and accreditation standards.

• Transfers images and data to the appropriate electronic health system, enters technical data/findings and prepares study for reporting by physician.

• Performs quality control checks, cleaning, disinfecting and other equipment maintenance tasks per manufacturer instructions for use and other regulatory guidelines.

• Ensures that technical quality of performed testing meets established protocols and applicable accreditation standards.

• Serves as a departmental preceptor to provide instruction and mentorship to new or less experienced team members. Assists with onboarding of new team members.

• Supports OU Health's academic partnerships by actively engaging in teaching of students in the radiologic program.

• Assists with quality assurance and performance improvement tasks as assigned.

• Demonstrates advanced knowledge by preparing and presenting in-service trainings as requested by leadership.

• May administer contrast per protocol.

• Ensures timely patient care by providing adequate time slots for daily appointments and working at a pace that supports the daily schedule.

• Provides On-Call clinical coverage outside regularly scheduled duty hours on weekdays, weekends and holidays as assigned.

• May Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and quality assurance methods.

General Responsibilities:

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program with an emphasis in echo and/or vascular as defined by ARDMS, ARRT and/or CCI.

Completion of JRCERT accredited Military Educational Program will be accepted in lieu if program meets certification requirements to obtain ARMDS or ARRT certification.

Experience: At least 1 year of experience as an echo and/or vascular sonographer required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: BLS issued by the American Heart Association required

One of the following certifications issued by ARDMS, ARRT or CCI required at hire: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS); Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS); Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS); Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT); Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS); Registered Technologist Vascular Sonography [RT(VS)]; Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Abdomen [RDMS (AB)] (visceral vascular testing only); Neurovascular Specialist (NVS) (extracranial and intracranial testing only); Registered Phlebology Sonographer (RPhS) (peripheral venous testing only)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skill in applying principles of radiologic technology, medical imaging, positioning of patients and medical ethics.

• Applies advanced knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology related to sonography and radiologic technologies associated with imaging specialty credentialed to perform.

• Demonstrates advanced ability and skill to apply theory, practices and techniques to perform, post-process, analyze and annotate study data or procedure documentation independently.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and patient populations served

• Demonstrates strong knowledge of and ability to apply HIPAA guidelines and standards.
