Job summary

Tampa General Hospital in Florida is seeking a Sonographer 3 to perform routine and advanced ultrasound examinations, delivering diagnostic images for physicians while ensuring patient safety, image quality, and efficient workflow. Mentoring junior sonographers and adherence to departmental protocols are expected.

Responsibilities include confirming orders, verifying patient identity, maintaining comfort, and supporting on-call coverage as required by Imaging leadership.

Qualifications

• Three years of diagnostic imaging experience.
• BLS certification required.
• ARDMS RVT or CCI RVS or ARRT vascular sonography certification.
• Two advanced ARDMS certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced ultrasound examinations.
• Maintain patient safety, image quality, and workflow.
• Mentor less experienced sonographers and students.
• Ensure correct orders and patient identification.
• Adhere to Tampa General Hospital policies and on-call needs.

Description

The Sonographer 3 independently performs a full range of routine and advanced ultrasound examinations to produce high-quality diagnostic images for physician interpretation and patient care. This role supports accurate diagnosis and treatment by maintaining a strong focus on patient safety, image quality, and efficient workflow. This position requires the use of independent judgment, critical thinking, and technical expertise to apply appropriate ultrasound techniques and optimize imaging results. The Sonographer 3 provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced sonographers and students, reinforcing adherence to established sonography principles and departmental protocols. Responsibilities include ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout all procedures, verifying accurate patient identification, and confirming that all studies are appropriately ordered prior to examination. All procedures are performed in alignment with Tampa General Hospitals’ mission, vision, values, policies, and regulatory standards. Participation in on-call coverage is required based on departmental and organizational needs, as determined by the Imaging Manager or Director.

Certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA)

ARDMS Registered Vascular Tech (RVT) or CCI Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) or ARRT vascular sonography and ARRT Sonography Registry

Obtained two (2) advanced certification with the ARDMS (i.e.: Abdomen, Breast, RVT or OB/GYN)

Work Experience and Additional Information

Three (3) year of experience performing diagnostic imaging in clinical setting.
