Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a Perinatal Sonographer I to perform diagnostic ultrasound exams, including monitoring fetal development, and to interact with patients, explaining procedures and ensuring comfort during scans.

You will operate high-frequency sonographic equipment, adjust settings for optimal images, and present preliminary findings to physicians, contributing to prenatal care and diagnostic accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a physician including: positions patients for the proper view, selects the appropriate scan images, and records essential information.
• Prepares patients for interventional procedures; instructs patients on physiological requirements and assists with transfers to the exam table.
• Obtains diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part with the transducer and documents exams for physician interpretation.
• Assists Radiologists and other Physicians in exams and procedures requiring a physician.
• Performs exams in all hospital areas including units, ED, and OR.

*Job Summary and Responsibilities*
As our Sonographer, you will utilize advanced sonographic equipment to record detailed images of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses, including unborn fetuses, providing critical visual data for diagnosis and prenatal care.
Every day you will directly interact with patients, explaining procedures, answering questions, and preparing them for scans. You will meticulously operate sonographic equipment, adjusting settings and patient positions to ensure clear, diagnostic images. You will monitor and care for patients to ensure their safety and comfort, select and examine images for pathologies, and present preliminary findings to Physicians.
To be successful in this role, you will possess excellent patient service and communication skills, sharp eyesight, and meticulous attention to detail. You will demonstrate strong technical proficiency, sound judgment, and advanced decision-making skills to effectively capture and interpret sonographic data, ensuring optimal diagnostic support.
The Perinatal Sonographer I utilizes high frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the monitoring and growth during pregnancy. Reviews/mounts test results for physician interpretation.

• Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a physician including: Performs exams based on patient anatomy and habitus; positions patients for the proper view of the affected area; selects the appropriate scan images to be recorded; obtains essential information from patients, medical records and previous scans for clinical correlation.
• Prepares patients for interventional procedures; instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure; helps patient transfer to exam table and ensures adequate patient immobilization to perform the scan; knows how to change scanning parameters to improve a scan.
• Obtains diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient with the transducer; provides documentation of ultrasound exam sufficient for physicians to interpret.
• Assists Radiologists and other Physicians in the performance of exams and procedures that require a physician.
• Performs exams in all areas of the hospital such as portables on units, portables in ED and portables in OR.
