Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids is seeking a Sonographer to perform diagnostic ultrasounds and report findings to the radiologist while delivering quality patient care.

Responsibilities include operating diagnostic equipment, preparing images for interpretation, and ensuring infection controls. ARDMS certification within 18 months is required, with BLS and mandatory training completed before start.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited ultrasound educational program is required.
• 1 year experience in performing ultrasound procedures preferred.
• ARDMS certification within 18 months of employment is required.
• Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment and produce high-quality sonograms following protocol.
• Identify patient and review radiology worksheet and medical information to assist examination.
• Prepare images on the PACS prior to radiologist interpretation.
• Follow safety and infection control guidelines; ensure department is clean and equipment is functioning.
• Coordinate with students per supervision policy of the affiliated institutions.

Takes all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.Operates diagnostic equipment.Produces high quality sonograms on a consistent basis following protocolIdentifies each patient and review the patient's radiology worksheet EMR for medical information that will assist the sonographer in performing an accurate examPrepares images on the PACS correctly prior to radiologist interpretationUnderstands requirements for student supervision as outlined in the Student Supervision policy for both the University of Iowa and the Mercy/St. Luke's school of Radiologic TechnologyEnsures that department is clean and all ancillary equipment is running properly.Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.Ultrasound/RadiologyEnsures infection control measures are completed prior to using an intracavity probe.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of anatomy and physiology with the ability to recognize subtle differences between healthy and pathological areas.Take anatomical images and recognizes normal vs. abnormal anatomy and exhibits a knowledge of pathological processes.Maintains current knowledge of new procedures.Professional Experience1 year experience in performing ultrasound procedures preferred.EducationCompletion of an accredited ultrasound educational program required.Licensure, Certification, RegistrationAmerican Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification within 18 months of employment required.Ultrasound & Radiology: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography vascular certification preferred.Current certification in Basic Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required.Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.
