Job description

Rezdôra is an Italian Restaurant dedicated to the food & hospitality of the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy. The restaurant was founded by Chef Stefano Secchi and partner David Switzer. Before opening Rezdôra, Chef Stefano worked throughout the US and in Italy, including at Osteria Francescana, All’Enoteca, and Hosteria Giusti.

As a Sommelier, you will serve as an ambassador for our award-winning wine program, focused exclusively on the wines of Italy, which has been recognized among Vinous' top Italian wine lists in NYC. You will work directly with our Wine Director, Head Sommelier, and beverage teams, responsible for maintaining the integrity of the wine program and facilitating proper wine service in our dining room. Your role includes providing thoughtful, attentive wine service, possessing excellent knowledge of our menu, discussing food & wine pairings with guests and staff, and engaging in all restaurant service elements.

We foster a 'all hands-on deck' mentality, encouraging all departments to support and motivate each other to achieve guest satisfaction with a 'guest first' approach. As part of the service team, you will interact with all departments regularly, requiring effective and respectful communication with coworkers and managers.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

While specific certifications are not mandatory, a strong fundamental knowledge of Italian wine regions, producer familiarity, and vintage knowledge are essential. The key to success as a Sommelier is a genuine desire to advance the wine program through clear communication and organization, curiosity to learn more, and a willingness to share expertise with guests and staff in a helpful and thoughtful manner.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a fast-paced NYC restaurant as a Sommelier Assistant, Sommelier, Server, or beverage-related position
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Comfort with repetitive motions such as walking, bending, and standing
  • Strong team collaboration skills
  • Good knowledge of food and wine, with a desire to learn about traditional and authentic Italian food, wine, beer, and spirits
  • Passion for teaching and learning about classic cocktails and Italian wine
  • Dedication to hospitality and creating a memorable guest experience
  • Leadership qualities and a drive to foster a hospitable culture in service
