Indigo Road Hospitality Group in Atlanta is seeking a skilled Sommelier to lead the wine program, educate staff, and ensure exceptional service during dinner. You will manage inventory, ordering, and wine education while collaborating with a dynamic team in a fast-paced setting.

The ideal candidate holds a Master Sommelier Level 1 certificate and is progressing toward Level 2, with strong customer service, budgets, and POS experience. Nights, weekends, and holidays are required.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must possess the Master Sommelier Level 1 Certificate and be working towards Level 2.
  • Strong ability to speak, read and understand directions.
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance at all times.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Able to manage budgets and work with a POS system.
  • Knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to communicate clearly with guests, managers, kitchen and staff.
  • Model Indigo Road guiding principles in daily work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist guests during dinner service with wine recommendations and pairing.
  • Train team members on wine knowledge, service techniques, glassware, and pours.
  • Ensure wine is served in proper glassware and condition.
  • Maintain wine inventory and accurate beverage lists.
  • Control costs through portion control and waste reduction; ensure quality.
  • Comply with alcoholic beverage regulations and internal policies.
  • Support bar profitability by accurate charging and inventory control.
  • Handle cash, deposits, and payments; report variances to management.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary work environment and security of assets.
  • Support management meetings and HR-related objectives as needed.

As the Restaurant Sommelier you will be the wine steward andassistwith all thingsregardingthe wine program at your location. You willbe responsible fortaking over the inventory, ordering in terms of Par levels, andassistingin wine education and sales at the restaurant.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilitiesand essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assistteam members and guests during the dinner service with wine recommendations andselectionfor perfect pairing with their dinner, decanting of the wine and wine service.
  • Train team members in order to maximize their understanding of wine specific to the restaurant menu and proper service techniques including glassware, pour levels, storage, beverage pairings and the ability to understand guest preferences.
  • Ensure that all wine is served in proper glassware and in proper condition.
  • Maintain all beverage lists to be accurate, up to date and free of errors.
  • Maintain all Wine inventory.
  • Control costs by reviewing portion control and quantities of preparation; minimizing waste; ensuring high quality of preparation.
  • Avoids legal challenges by conforming to the regulations of the alcoholic beverage commission.
  • Maximizes bar profitability by ensuring portion control; monitoring accuracy of charges.
  • Handles cash, bank deposits, credit statements in a timely fashion.Informs Controller of any overages or shortfalls immediately.
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy environment by establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations; securing revenues; developing and implementing disaster plans; maintaining security and sprinkler systems; maintaining parking lot and walkways.
  • Maintains ambiance by controlling lighting, background music, linen service, glassware, dinnerware, and utensil quality and placement; monitoring food presentation and service.
  • Attend manager meetings, per the GM’s request when asked.
  • Assist the management team in human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, coaching and counseling employees.Communicates job expectations by reviewing job contributions and enforcing policies and procedures communicated in the Employee Handbook. Adhere and deliver the 14 elements of service with all employees.
Requirements for Success:
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must possess at least the Master Sommelier Level 1 Certificate and working towards completion of the Level 2.
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand basic directions.
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance at all times.
  • Must demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Must be able to manage and develop budgets.
  • Must be comfortable with a Point of Sales computer system.
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with guests, managers, kitchen, and restaurant employees and manage a wide variety of people in a very fast paced setting.
  • Ability to model and act in accordance with The Indigo Road guiding principle.
Physical Requirements:
  • Constant standing/walking
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling or crawling
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps
  • Constant computer/POS Register usage
  • Frequent, continual, intermittent flexing or rotation of the wrist(s) and spine
  • Constant reaching, turning, and performing precision work around the bar area
  • Constant receiving detailed information through oral communication
  • Constant talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
