Job summary

A leading MEP contractor in Richmond, Virginia is seeking a Solutions Engineer to develop bid strategies, prepare estimates, and present technical solutions. Candidates should have strong HVAC knowledge and be skilled in preparing proposals, as well as working effectively with various teams. This is a full-time position that may require occasional travel and overtime.

Qualifications

  • Possess strong technical and mechanical knowledge of HVAC, ductwork, plumbing and piping systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Ability to deal diplomatically with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project solutions to bring value to existing customers.
  • Prepare cost estimates and proposals for HVAC systems.
  • Develop and deliver technical proposals to customers.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules and regulations.

Skills

Strong technical and mechanical knowledge of HVAC
Ability to read blueprints
Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Job description

The primary responsibility of the Solutions Engineer is to work with Account Executives, Account Managers, and the Estimating department to develop bid strategies, prepare estimates, and present complex technical solutions that position ColonialWebb as an industry leader in facility services for mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, and Controls). The Solutions Engineer typically reports to the Preconstruction Manager.

A Day in the life:
  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures and practices
  • Develop project solutions to bring value to existing customers and a competitive advantage to bid situations
  • Develop and deliver technical proposals to customers
  • Prepare cost estimates and proposals for HVAC systems for commercial projects (i.e., installations, retrofits, and equipment replacements).
  • Perform field surveys and collaborate with the operations team to confirm scope logistics and validate estimates
  • Support sales and operations for project opportunities. Specifically, focus on design-build, more complex opportunities, and opportunities where there is potential for operational and/or energy pay-backs
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with owner-direct customers and general contractors, as well as create strong partnerships with select engineers and vendors
  • Develop trusting relationships with customers and ensure customers have positive relationships with as many ColonialWebb personnel as possible
  • Participate in community and industry associated networking organizations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
You should have:
  • Possess strong technical and mechanical knowledge of HVAC, ductwork, pluming and piping systems
  • Possess ability to read blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Demonstrate understanding of building materials, engineering standards and codes
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and the ability to interpret computerized cost data.
  • Ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with internal and external customers
  • Ability to demonstrate foresight and problem-solving skills to make sound business decisions
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to coordinate and perform multiple activities in a timely manner
  • Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when handling emergencies
  • Ability to travel as necessary to jobs and meetings
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as duties demand. Unscheduled overtime may be required, as necessary.
