Databricks is seeking a Solutions Engineer in Chicago to build prototypes and technical demos that translate customer problems into actionable data and AI solutions. You will work closely with Account Executives to show value and guide customers through architecture, design, and production adoption.

The ideal candidate brings 2+ years of customer-facing experience, proficiency in Python/Java/Scala and SQL, and familiarity with Spark, Hadoop, and Kafka.

This will be an in-office role and candidates must be based in Chicago, IL. Relocation assistance will not be provided.

The impact you will have:

• Form successful relationships with customers throughout your assigned territory, providing technical and business value to Databricks customers in collaboration with Account Executives.
• Operate as an expert in AI and data analytics to excite customers about Databricks. You will develop into a ‘champion’ and trusted advisor on multiple areas of architecture, design, and implementation to lead to the successful adoption of the Databricks data and AI platform.
• Adopt a builder-first approach: move quickly from customer problem to working prototype by writing code, building demos, and creating reusable assets that accelerate customer outcomes.
• Use AI tools to increase your productivity and drive innovation.
• Scale best practices in your field and support customers by authoring reference architectures, how-tos, demo applications, and help build the Databricks community in your region by leading workshops, seminars, and meet-ups.
• Grow your knowledge and expertise to the level of a technical and/or industry specialist.

What we look for:

• The ideal candidate has 2+ years of technical experience in a customer-facing solutions engineering role.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience through work experience
• Demonstrates a builder mindset: preference for hands-on prototyping and learning-by-doing, with comfort using AI-assisted development tools to move faster
• Hands-on experience with Python, Java, or Scala, and proficiency in SQL
• Experience with Big Data technologies (Ex: Spark, Hadoop, Kafka) and architectures is a plus
• Aptitude to interact with customers confidently and professionally
• Can meet expectations for technical training and role-specific outcomes within 6 months of hire
