Job summary

Covetus is seeking a Senior Solution Architect for a 12-month contract (W2) in the United States. The role requires 15+ years of software engineering with 7+ years in design/architecture and hands-on API/microservices delivery.

You will own complex solution architectures, define API specifications, and guide multiple engineering teams across data, integrations, and services. Proficiency in .NET, AWS, and OpenAPI/JSON Schema is essential.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of software engineering experience with at least 7 years in design/architecture, including recent hands-on Solution Architecture.
• Strong ownership and accountability with initiative from design through implementation.
• Deep experience designing and delivering enterprise APIs and microservices architectures.
• Ability to create solution architecture, API specifications, integration designs, and technical direction for multiple teams.
• Strong experience with .NET / Microsoft technologies, including modernization of legacy applications.
• Experience with legacy modernization, breaking functionality into APIs/microservices.
• Strong database design skills; PostgreSQL preferred.
• Fluency with OpenAPI 3.x and JSON Schema as design artifacts.
• Ability to coordinate across apps, APIs, data, integrations and multiple workstreams.
• Experience providing architectural leadership across multiple development teams.
• Strong communication skills with technical leadership and engineering teams.
• Clear technical writing: design docs, decision records, tickets with reproduction evidence.
• AI-driven ways of working; comfortable with GitHub Copilot and Claude suite.

Job description

Duration: 12 Months Contract + extensions

Open for W2 contractors only

Must Have Requirements:

• 15+ years of software engineering experience with at least 7 years of design/architecture experience, including recent hands-on Solution Architecture experience.
• Strong ownership and accountability - demonstrated ability to take complex technical initiatives from design through implementation without needing constant direction. Non-Negotiable.
• Deep experience designing and delivering enterprise APIs and microservices architectures.
• Strong ability to create solution architecture, API specifications, integration designs, and technical direction that development teams can execute against.
• Strong experience with .NET / Microsoft technologies, including understanding and modernizing legacy .NET applications.
• Experience with legacy application modernization, including breaking existing functionality into modern APIs/microservices.
• Strong database design skills: relational modeling and remodeling, data integration, and application dependency analysis. PostgreSQL preferred.
• Strong AWS, specifically API Gateway, ALB, ECS, PostgreSQL (Aurora/RDS), and Route 53. Working familiarity with managed cache, queueing, secrets and configuration management, WAF, ACM, and private networking across VPCs and accounts.
• Fluency with OpenAPI 3.x and JSON Schema as design artifacts, not generated afterthoughts.
• Ability to see the big picture across applications, APIs, data, integrations, and multiple workstreams, rather than focusing on one service in isolation.
• Experience providing architectural leadership across multiple development teams/workstreams and working directly with engineers through implementation.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical leadership, architects, and engineering teams.
• Clear technical writing - design docs, decision records, tickets with reproduction evidence.
• AI-driven ways of working. Comfortable using GitHub Copilot and the Claude suite as a routine part of design and delivery - specification drafting, story enumeration, code review, and cross-document consistency checking - with sound judgment about where AI-assisted development adds value and where human validation is required.
