Job summary

PSI is seeking a Solutions Architect with extensive VistA and MUMPS experience to lead architecture for enterprise VA testing and modernization efforts. You will design, evaluate, and oversee integration across VistA, EHRM, and related systems, ensuring alignment with government standards and security requirements.

The role requires hands-on leadership in architectural design, data integration, and tool development with Oracle/SQL Server expertise.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years IT experience in architecture, software engineering, and system integration.
  • Experience with VistA or other MUMPS-based systems including FileMan structures.
  • Experience with Oracle or SQL Server in UNIX/VMS/Windows environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, evaluate, implement, test, and manage architecture solutions across VistA and integrated systems.
  • Lead integration analyses for enterprise VA systems and develop architecture strategies.
  • Gather and define architecture requirements ensuring VA and enterprise standards alignment.
  • Develop system-level test approaches and ensure alignment across VA domains.
  • Produce architecture artifacts and documentation with clear, concise reporting.

Overview

•••••••••••••••••••••• (PSI), a Government Contractor, has an immediate opportunity available for a Solutions Architect with VistA systems and database experience. The successful candidate will serve as a Solutions Architect supporting enterprise-level testing, modernization, and integration efforts within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role supports VA EHRM application testing organization and focuses heavily on architectural design and oversight for VistA database environments. Core systems include, but are not limited to: VistA (Veterans Health Information System and Technology Architecture), Oracle Health (Cerner) Millennium, and COTS/GOTS systems integrated with VistA applications.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong architectural leadership, extensive experience with VistA/MUMPS-based data structures, and hands‑on expertise across relational database technologies such as Oracle and SQL Server. Experience developing Python‑based automation and tools, designing data integration solutions, and understanding enterprise network protocols is required. Familiarity with AI tools for system design, analytics, and test optimization is highly desirable.

Candidates must be able to contribute to enterprise testing strategies and support system integration activities. This includes designing and evaluating architecture components, developing system‑level test approaches, and ensuring technical alignment across VistA, EHRM, and enterprise testing environments. The role requires active participation in collaborative meetings with VA customers, contract teammates, VA project teams, and key technical stakeholders.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
Candidate must be able to:
  • Design, evaluate, implement, test, and manage technical architecture solutions across VistA and integrated systems.
  • Develop architecture strategies, conduct feasibility studies, and lead integration analyses for enterprise VA systems.
  • Independently gather and define architecture requirements, ensuring compatibility and compliance with VA, EHRM, and enterprise standards.
  • Analyze architecture components and database structures, conduct risk assessments, and define architectures for testing and staging environments.
  • Manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and work independently with high attention to detail.
  • Produce clear, comprehensive architectural and technical analysis reports with minimal supervision.
  • Utilize established enterprise architecture tools, repositories, and governance processes to capture and maintain architecture artifacts and documentation.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral/written communication skills and strong customer-service focus.
  • Meet federal security requirements and obtain/maintain a Government‑granted security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional IT experience, including architecture design, software engineering, system integration, and database‑focused solution development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with VistA or other MUMPS‑based systems, including FileMan structures and cross‑system interfaces.
  • Hands‑on experience with Oracle or SQL Server in UNIX, VMS, and/or Windows environments.
  • Proven ability to design and analyze system architectures, especially within complex healthcare environments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Existing VA network access.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, VA, or DoD systems, particularly in architecture or engineering roles.
  • Experience with Python, Java, or J2EE applications.
  • Familiarity with HP Quality Center, Rational ClearQuest or Risk‑based testing methodologies
  • Experience with AI‑assisted development, automated analytics, or intelligent testing tools.
  • Understanding of REST/SOAP interfaces, HL7/FHIR data exchange, and legacy‑to‑modern system integrations.
