Job summary

Planned Systems International (PSI) is hiring a Database Systems Engineer to provide software engineering and integration support for VA IETSS. You’ll work with VistA, Oracle Health Millennium, and other EHR systems, using Python scripting and Oracle/MS SQL databases.

You’ll design test cases, assist in integration, and collaborate with VA teams on architecture and testing efforts. Required are a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 10+ years in IT with software engineering, integration, and

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or related field.
  • 10+ years of IT experience with software engineering, integration, architecture analysis and testing.
  • Experience with Oracle or SQL Server in Unix/VMs/Windows environments.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, implement, test, and manage technology solutions.
  • Develop architecture strategies, feasibility studies, and integration analyses.
  • Independently gather architecture requirements and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Analyze application architecture, perform risk assessments, and define testing environments.
  • Work on multiple tasks, adapt to priorities, be detail oriented, and work independently.
  • Write client deliverable analysis reports with little supervision.
  • Use architecture tools and repositories to publish architecture artifacts.
  • Exhibit strong oral and written communication and customer service skills.
  • Candidates must meet eligibility for government security clearance.

Overview

Planned Systems International (PSI), a Government Contractor, has an immediate opportunity available for aDatabase SystemsEngineer withdatabase and software development experience.Thecandidate will provide software engineering and integration support for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Independent Enterprise Testing Support Services (IETSS) contract.Candidate will work with various applicationssuch as:The VA’s Veterans Health Information System Technology Architecture (VistA), OracleHealth (formerly Cerner) Millennium,and otherEHRsystems. Required skills include Python script development, working with Oracle and MS SQL databases, building Python based websites, and knowledge of network protocols. Knowledge of AI tools for software development and data analysis is a plus. Testing capability skills, such as designing and creating test cases, system integration with external components, and understanding system architecture and database development are alsodesired.Candidatewill activelyparticipatein collaborative meetings with the VA customer, contract teammates, VA projectteamsand other key stakeholders.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, implement, test, and manage technology solutions.
  • Develop and execute architecture strategies, feasibility studies, and integration analyses.
  • Independently gather and define the architecture requirements and ensure that thearchitectures arecompatible and in compliance with theappropriate ITorganization and project standards.
  • Analyze application architecture of the systems, perform risk assessments, and be able toestablishappropriate architecturefor testing environments.
  • Work simultaneously on multipletasksif necessary, handle changing priorities, be detail oriented, and be able to work independently.
  • Write effective client deliverable analysis reports with little to no supervision.
  • Must be capable ofutilizingorganizationally established architecture tools, repositories, and repository management processes to capture, publish, andmaintainarchitecture artifacts.
  • Must also have excellent oral and written communication skillsand exhibitexcellent customer service skills.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government investigation. Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and obtain aGovernment-granted Security clearance.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered if other requirements are met.
  • At least 10 years of overall information technology experience. Must have experience in Software Engineering including development, integration experience, architecture analysis, and testing the integration between applications, databases, and external applications.
  • Experience working in Oracle or SQL Server in a UNIX/VMS/Windows environment.
Desired Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a recognized technical, engineering, scientific, managerial, business, or other discipline related to area of expertise.

Physical Demands
  • Access to VA network is a big plus
  • Experience with Oracle Millennium is preferred.
  • Healthcare,VAand DoD architecture/engineering experience would be a plus.
  • Experience with Python, Java, J2EE applications
  • Experience with:
  • HP Quality Center and Rational Clear Quest
  • Risk based testing methodologies
