Job summary

OP is seeking a hands-on Solutions Architect to support manufacturing plant technology projects. You will work with plant operations, engineering, and technology teams to identify issues, design solutions, and drive implementations on-prem and in hybrid environments.

The role requires visiting the production floor, gathering requirements, and translating them into scalable architecture while ensuring security and reliability across OT/IT ecosystems.

Job description

We are seeking a hands-on, proactive Solutions Architect to support technology initiatives within a manufacturing plant environment. This individual will serve as a local architect, working directly with plant operations, business stakeholders, engineering teams, and technology teams to identify and investigate operational and technology challenges, troubleshoot issues, develop solution architectures, gain stakeholder alignment, and help drive solutions through implementation.
This role requires a self-starter and problem solver who is comfortable going directly to the production floor, understanding how systems and processes operate, gathering and analyzing information, and independently identifying problems and potential solutions. The architect should bring broad technical knowledge across manufacturing and enterprise environments, including manufacturing applications, MOM/MES and plant-floor systems, OT/IT integration, on-prem infrastructure, applications and APIs, data, cloud, networking, automation, and emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities

• Work directly with plant teams and stakeholders to proactively identify operational pain points, technology gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
• Go to the production line/GEMBA as needed to understand processes, investigate issues, gather information, and support troubleshooting.
• Investigate and troubleshoot issues across manufacturing applications, plant-floor/OT systems, integrations, data, networking, infrastructure, on-prem, and cloud environments.
• Develop solutions from problem discovery and root-cause investigation through architecture, stakeholder alignment, and implementation.
• Architect solutions spanning manufacturing/industrial systems and enterprise technology ecosystems, including MOM/MES, OT/IT integration, applications/APIs, operational and enterprise data, on-prem/hybrid infrastructure, and cloud platforms.
• Work across plant, business, and technical stakeholders to gather and distill the information needed to troubleshoot, maintain, and future-proof systems and technology.
• Develop and present architecture recommendations, solution options, technical considerations, trade-offs, and risks to architecture leadership and stakeholders.
• Translate plant-floor and troubleshooting learnings into improved architecture patterns, design standards, and future solutions.
• Identify opportunities to leverage real-time data and analytics, cloud technologies, automation, Data & AI, and emerging technologies where relevant to plant needs.
• Provide architectural guidance through implementation and help ensure solutions are scalable, secure, resilient, maintainable, and aligned with plant and enterprise requirements.
  

Qualifications

• Strong Solutions Architecture experience, preferably across manufacturing/industrial and enterprise environments.
• Strong manufacturing/industrial and plant-floor technology knowledge, including experience with on-prem manufacturing environments.
• Experience architecting solutions across manufacturing systems and enterprise technology ecosystems, including applications, integrations, data, cloud, networking, infrastructure, and on-prem systems.
• Strong experience with on-prem and hybrid architectures, particularly within operational or manufacturing environments.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability and willingness to work directly with plant teams and investigate issues at the production-line level.
• Ability to translate troubleshooting findings and operational learnings into improved design standards, architecture patterns, and future solutions.
• Ability to operate independently and self-sufficiently, including investigating situations where the problem, root cause, or solution may not initially be defined.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across multiple business and technical teams and distill information needed to troubleshoot, maintain, and future-proof systems and technology.
• Experience supporting solutions from problem discovery and architecture through implementation.

Technical Experience

• Experience across several of the following areas is preferred:
• Manufacturing/OT: MOM/MES, PLCs, SCADA, sensors, plant-floor systems, and OT/IT integration; exposure to Siemens MOM or similar manufacturing platforms is a plus.
• Data: Operational and enterprise data, SQL/NoSQL, data integration/pipelines, streaming, and real-time analytics.
• Cloud & Enterprise Architecture: AWS, Azure/GCP, hybrid cloud, and enterprise cloud architecture.
• Applications & Integration: Application architecture, APIs, enterprise integrations, Java/Python/.NET, and related technologies.
• Infrastructure & Security: On-prem infrastructure, networking/troubleshooting, IAM, and security architecture.
• DevOps: Containers, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and related technologies.
• Automation & Emerging Technologies: Automation, AI/ML, GenAI, AIOps, MCP, or related technologies where applicable to manufacturing use cases.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect is preferred. TOGAF or similar architecture experience/certification is a plus.
