Itron is innovating new ways for utilities and cities to manage energy and water. We create a more resourceful world to protect essential resources for today and tomorrow.

The Solutions Architect is responsible for designing, documenting, and delivering end-to-end technical solutions that support utility digital transformation initiatives and align with customer business objectives, technical ecosystems, and operational requirements.

This role partners closely with customers, Product, Engineering, and Customer Operations teams to develop scalable, innovative solutions that create measurable value for utility organizations and their field operations.

The ideal candidate is customer-centric, authentic, accountable, agile, collaborative, and innovative, with a passion for solving complex business challenges through technology.

This individual serves as a trusted advisor, helping customers achieve successful business outcomes through strategic solution design and technical leadership.

Duties & Responsibilities

Partner with customers and stakeholders to understand business goals, technical environments, and operational requirements through consultative engagement, discovery sessions, and solution design workshops. Translate customer needs into scalable, innovative, and sustainable solution recommendations that align with business objectives and operational priorities. Design end-to-end software solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing customer systems, processes, and technology ecosystems. Lead requirements gathering, business process analysis, process mapping, and solution documentation for enterprise software implementations. Architect and support integrations between business-critical applications, platforms, and data environments using APIs and other integration methods. Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Customer Operations, and implementation teams to deliver customer‑centric solutions that drive adoption and long‑term value. Serve as a trusted advisor by balancing technical, operational, and business requirements to guide customers toward successful outcomes. Develop architecture diagrams, technical specifications, solution documentation, and implementation artifacts that support delivery excellence. Contribute to architecture standards, governance practices, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance scalability, quality, maintainability, and innovation. Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and agile working environment that encourages knowledge sharing, problem‑solving, and continuous learning. Support digital transformation initiatives within utility and energy organizations by aligning technology solutions with customer business strategies. Remain accountable for solution quality, customer satisfaction, and successful project outcomes from design through implementation.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 5-7 years of experience designing, implementing, supporting, or architecting complex enterprise software solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and practical experience.
  • Strong technical foundation in software architecture, systems integration, enterprise applications, cloud technologies, or technology implementation.
  • Experience gathering, analyzing, and translating business and technical requirements into actionable solution designs.
  • Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships and collaborate effectively with customers, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex challenges and develop practical, scalable solutions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience creating solution architecture documentation, technical specifications, workflows, and implementation plans.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently when needed, and remain accountable for delivering customer‑focused outcomes.
  • Experience working in agile, cross‑functional environments with a collaborative and inclusive mindset.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and improving customer experiences through technology.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience supporting utilities, energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, or other asset-intensive industries.
  • Experience with enterprise platforms and technologies such as SAP, IBM Maximo, Esri ArcGIS, GIS, work management systems, asset management systems, or related enterprise solutions.
  • Experience designing and supporting API-based integrations and enterprise system architectures.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, SaaS solutions, and enterprise software implementation methodologies.
  • Experience facilitating customer workshops, discovery sessions, architecture reviews, or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience creating architecture diagrams, solution design documentation, technical roadmaps, and implementation artifacts.
  • Experience contributing to technical standards, architecture governance, best practices, or mentoring team members.
  • Familiarity with utility operations, field service management, workforce management, or asset lifecycle management processes.
