Solution Architect, Bureau of IT Application and Platform Engineering

The Division of Information Technology aims to promote and protect the health of all New Yorkers through innovative technology and accessible health information. We seek a Solutions Architect to join our award-winning team and help revolutionize public health IT.

The Bureau of IT Application and Platform Engineering is committed to delivering high-quality, customized software solutions and database services aligned with the agency's strategic goals and public health vision. The successful candidate will design, develop, and implement innovative IT solutions addressing our business challenges, working closely with stakeholders and technical teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Solution Design: Design and document system architecture, data flows, and integration points. Develop scalable, reliable, and secure Azure-based solutions.
  2. Requirement Analysis: Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, translating them into detailed technical specifications.
  3. Technology Evaluation: Assess emerging technologies, including AI and cloud computing, for innovation opportunities.
  4. Implementation Oversight: Guide development teams, ensuring solutions meet architectural standards.
  5. Problem-Solving: Resolve complex technical issues for seamless solution delivery.
  6. Documentation: Create clear technical documentation supporting design and implementation.
  7. Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and effective communication.
  8. Architecture Governance: Enforce architecture standards, best practices, and guidelines for Azure solutions.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in programming, databases, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • At least 3 years as a Solution Architect focusing on Microsoft Azure.
  • Proficiency in cloud engineering, DevOps, and automation tools.
  • Knowledge of IT architecture frameworks like TOGAF.
  • Extensive experience with Azure services such as Azure DevOps, Logic Apps, Virtual Machines, and Storage.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud solutions and knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Understanding of AI, machine learning, and modern application development.
