Job description

Belle Tavern is a cozy, downtown Memphis tavern known for its intimate atmosphere, solid pub fare, and one of the largest selections of whiskey in the city. We’re looking for a self-reliant and driven Line Cook or Chef to take full ownership of our kitchen operations. This is a solo position — ideal for someone who thrives in an independent setting and takes pride in quality, consistency, and efficiency.

Hours:

Tuesday–Thursday: 2:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Friday–Saturday: 2:30 PM – 10:00 PM (or until close)

Pay: Negotiable, based on experience

Responsibilities:

Station Setup & Prep:

Prepare your entire station before each shift, ensuring all tools, ingredients, and equipment are in place and ready.

Food Prep & Cooking:

Handle all prep work including chopping, marinating, portioning, and sauce-making according to our recipes.
Cook all menu items to order using a variety of methods (grilling, frying, sautéing, etc.).
Plate each dish attractively and consistently.

Cleanliness & Sanitation:

Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace in accordance with health regulations.
Properly store ingredients, handle food safely, and manage waste responsibly.

Inventory & Ordering:

Track ingredient levels, report shortages, and assist with restocking and receiving deliveries.

Dishwashing & Cleanup:

Wash dishes, cookware, and utensils.
Clean kitchen surfaces, grease traps, drains, and trash areas.
Take out trash and restock supplies as needed.

Adaptability & Communication:

Remain calm and efficient during busy periods.
Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff and management.
Adapt to menu updates and troubleshoot issues independently.

Quality Control:

Ensure that every dish meets the standard in taste, appearance, and portion size.

What We’re Looking For:

Solid cooking experience — preferably in a solo or small kitchen setting.
Dependable, self-motivated, and able to manage time and multitask effectively.
Comfortable handling all aspects of kitchen operations solo.
ServSafe certification a plus (or willingness to obtain).
Someone who enjoys tavern-style food and takes pride in doing it right.
