Insight Global is seeking a SolidWorks CAD Designer to model and draft fire-protection equipment, electrical I&C enclosures, sensors, connectors, and mounting hardware. Independent modeling using SolidWorks, with GD&T and revision control, is required.
Expect ~60% electrical-focused work, balanced by mechanical representation considerations. The role requires 5+ years in industrial CAD/design, producing production-quality drawings, and collaboration with engineers.
Insight Global is looking for a SolidWorks CAD Designer to support a client project by providing independent modeling and drafting support for fire-protection equipment, electrical I&C enclosures, sensors, connectors, connection boxes, mounting arrangements, and related mechanical components. Using SolidWorks, this individual will translate engineering specifications and preliminary concepts into complete 3D models and production-quality drawings while applying established drafting standards, GD&T, and revision-control requirements. The designer will independently evaluate component fit, mounting, clearances, mechanical interfaces, manufacturability, and overall design integration while working closely with mechanical, electrical I&C, and fire-protection engineers to incorporate technical feedback and design changes. Approximately 60% of the work will support electrical applications, but the position is focused on the physical and mechanical representation of electrical equipment rather than electrical schematic design. Salary ranges from 70K-100K depending on YOE.
Five or more years of industrial CAD design or drafting experience, preferably within the five-to-ten-year range.Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks three-dimensional modeling and engineering drawing creation.Experience developing production-quality drawings for industrial equipment, enclosures, components, or mechanical assemblies.Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, drawing standards, and revision control.Demonstrated understanding of component fit, mounting, clearances, mechanical interfaces, and practical design integration.Ability to take specifications and preliminary design outlines and independently develop complete models and drawings.Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.Experience supporting nuclear, power-generation, defense, aerospace, or highly regulated industrial projects.Experience designing electrical enclosures, connection boxes, equipment supports, sensor installations, or similar hardware.Experience working with SolidWorks PDM or SolidWorks Vault environments.Familiarity with configuration control and formal engineering-document workflows.Practical understanding of manufacturability, assembly, installation access, mounting, and basic stress considerations.
