Job summary

City of Mesa is seeking a Solid Waste Foreman to supervise and direct crews responsible for refuse/recycling collection, container delivery and repair. The role creates crew assignments, ensures safety and quality, and communicates with staff in large meetings and in confidential settings.

The position involves occasional heavy work, on-call hours, and flexible start times. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, 3–5 years field operating experience, and 2 years operating

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED and 3–5 years field operating experience.
• Two years of experience operating heavy equipment (5 tons or larger).
• Valid Arizona Class B CDL or Intrastate CDL with no air brake restriction and valid medical certificate by hire date.
• Must complete DOT Reasonable Suspicion Training for supervisors within 30 days of supervisory assignment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct collection, container delivery and repair operations.
• Create and approve crew assignments and schedules; monitor productivity and quality.
• Ensure safety and customer service standards are met.
• Communicate with department staff via email and meetings; respond to questions and complaints.
• Work holidays, flexible hours and be available for on-call as needed.
