Job summary

Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) invites motivated undergraduates in Civil or Environmental Engineering to join the Solid Waste Intern program in Monroeville, PA for Summer 2027.

You will assist with lab and field tasks related to solid waste landfills and transfer stations, including data tabulation, report preparation, and design calculations. Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering program.
• Prior internship and/or related engineering and construction inspection experience preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate in face-to-face interactions and by email.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to write daily reports.
• Ability to use Excel Spreadsheets to prepare calculations and analyze data.
• Possession of sufficient physical stamina to work outdoors under various field conditions.
• Valid driver's license.
• Local candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform field duties: Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) tasks including monitoring and documenting landfill cell, cap, and gas collection system construction.

Overview

As a Solid Waste Intern for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in the Waste Management Practice for our Monroeville, PA office, you'll support in-office and field activities primarily associated with solid waste landfills and transfer station facilities. In-office activities include engineering tasks such as tabulating laboratory and field test data, compilation of technical reports, stormwater management system design, and landfill gas collection system design. Field activities include Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) tasks such as monitoring and documenting landfill cell, cap, and gas collection system construction, and use of equipment for monitoring landfill emissions. You will interact and communicate with CEC office and field staff, clients, and contractors.

Through the CEC Internship Program, you will:

• Acquire practical experience applying knowledge from college courses, learn from industry experts, and collaborate with teams across functional groups and locations
• Develop a robust professional network through social events and interactive activities
• Collaborate closely with a mentor in your discipline to tackle real-world challenges
• Participate in workshops to help foster interpersonal skills within the workplace and prepare students for success in their full-time careers
