Job summary

Lake County Solid Waste is seeking a Driver / Operator to join the team in Lake County. The role requires a Class B CDL with winter driving experience and the ability to operate large trucks and heavy equipment.

The position is full-time with a varied schedule, including weekends, and offers excellent benefits. A Class A CDL is preferred, with a requirement to upgrade if only a B CDL is held. Applicants must pass drug and alcohol testing per FMCSA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Valid Class B CDL with acceptable driving record and 1 year winter CDL experience.
• Class A CDL preferred; if you have a valid Class B CDL, you will be required to obtain Class A by end of probation.
• Must be able to operate large trucks and heavy equipment safely and skillfully.
• Must be able to conduct minor maintenance on trucks and equipment.
• Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather and temperatures.
• Must work well with the public and coworkers.
• Must be knowledgeable of all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the operation of commercial motor vehicles.
• Must be able to lift 80 lbs.
• Roll‑off and pup trailer experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drive transfer truck to container sites.
• Set empty containers.
• Consolidate loaded containers.
• Retrieve loaded containers.
• Deliver and unload containers.
• Clean area around container site, truck, and trailer.
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment.
• Operate heavy equipment.
• Move and compact waste.
• Perform landfill duties, including working at the ticket shack.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Class A CDL is preferred; if you have a valid Class B CDL, you will be required to obtain a Class A by the end of your probationary period.

HOURS/DAYS

WAGE

$26.86 hourly. This is a union covered position.
