Job summary

Beaufort County is seeking a worker to assist the public with disposal of solid waste, coordinate with the waste contractor, and keep the site clean for staff and visitors. The role works under close supervision and follows established procedures.

Essential duties include opening/closing the site, helping customers with disposal, maintaining site cleanliness, and reporting hazards or violations. A short demonstration of up to one month of related experience is required.

Examples of Duties

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

• Opens and closes the convenience site, removes litter, answers phone, fills containers that need emptying and prepare daily reports on site activity.
• Checks entering vehicles for solid waste decals and assists customers with the disposal and recycling of their solid waste.
• Maintains cleanliness of the site.
• Notifies supervisor of activities, violations and hazard.
• Assists citizens as needed.
• Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
• Requires a short demonstration up to and including one month of related experience.

Supplemental Information

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
