Provides general labor in carrying out Department operations including the collection and disposal of either solid waste or recycling on a City-wide basis.
Works under immediate to general supervision. This classification is distinguished from the Solid Waste Recycling Collector/Driver by less experience and the Solid Waste Recycling Collector/Driver serves as the lead worker on a truck.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Graduation from High School or a GED; and
Minimum one year of experience driving a CDL vehicle required;
Experience picking up or delivering items preferred; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Special Qualifications:
Valid Commercial Driver’s License, (Class B) with air brake endorsement and valid Medical Examiners Certificate.
Hourly Rate
The Solid Waste and Recycling Laborer Extra Driver is covered under the AFSCME Bargaining Union, and all new hires begin employment at $22.29 per hour, regardless of years of experience. Employees in this classification receive a step increase on their anniversary. The steps effective 7/1/2024 include:
