Job summary

Fralock, an engineered solutions provider, seeks a Soldering Technician I for its Valencia, CA site. You will solder parts onto flexible laminations, assemble, test, troubleshoot, rework, and repair electrical components per process specs. Cross-train across stations, train others, and ensure quality, safety, and on-time delivery.

You will perform in-process and final inspections, support composite layup processes, and maintain clean room practices while following ITAR/EAR requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• J-STD-001 Certificate with an “S” addendum (Space).
• Three (3) + years of manufacturing assembly experience.
• Three (3) + years of hand soldering experience.
• Experience with through-hole and SMT components.
• Ability to interpret blueprints and layup instructions.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Soldering Technician I is responsible for the soldering of parts onto flexible laminations, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, rework, and repairs of electrical components using a variety of hand tools and equipment according to required specifications for defined manufacturing processes. This includes responsibility for the J-STD 001 training and in-house certification of operators. The Technician will also support the execution of composite layup process, including bonding, trimming, curing, and inspection on products for direct sale or integration into larger assemblies. This role focuses on producing high-quality products safely, efficiently, and on schedule while meeting both internal and external customer requirements. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to identify quality issues, and flexibility to support multiple functions through cross-training.

Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

• Reads, interprets, and follows detailed work instructions, drawings, processes and established procedures to solder parts according to quality standards and customer specifications.
• Troubleshoots with an O-scope, multi-meter and data acquisition devices.
• Prepares and cleans equipment for subsequent use.
• Responsible for the J-STD 001 training and in-house certification of operators.
• Continues soldering training and attends certification programs to ensure job knowledge and skills set remain up-to-date and certification remains current.
• Occasionally supports engineering in testing and troubleshooting new designs.
• Perform visual inspection on incoming products for contamination and defects and validation against Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Use of a variety of composite materials, including polyimides, sealants, fiberglass, metals, and related materials while adhering to procedures.
• Perform in-process and final inspection to ensure compliance with specifications, utilizing precision measuring tools.
• Remove defective materials and report any part, tooling, or equipment issues to supervision promptly.
• Document inspection results, prepare rejection tags, and report all nonconformances to Production Supervisor.
• Participate in continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and operational efficiency, both independently and as part of a team.
• Cross-train and rotate across multiple workstations to support production needs and efficiency.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with Supervisors, Production Leads, and peers to support department goals.
• Ability to train and support other Technicians.
• Follow all safety standards and procedures, including PPE requirements for a clean room environment.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area using safety standards and expectations
• Other duties as needed or assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills

• Ability to deal with and solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to interpret written materials such as technical reports, manuals, layup instructions, work instructions, and safety warnings.
• Ability to prepare clear and accurate documentation, including nonconformance reports, technical reports, and shift hand-offs.

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

• Proficiently in Microsoft Suite, data entry and document uploads.
• Previous blueprint reading and interpretation experience.
• Ability to use a variety of soldering, measuring equipment and hand tools, including calipers, micrometers, rulers, tape measurers, scissors, wrenches, screwdrivers, and knives.
• Previous soldering skills required for through-hole and SMT (Surface Mount Technology) components.
• Experience operating spot-welding equipment.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Skills

• Previous experience in composite layup and cleanroom environments.
• Working knowledge of AS9100 quality standards and requirements.
• Quality inspection experience in manufacturing.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S practices.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Previous experience performing composite layups, inspection and curing oven.

Education Requirements

• High School Degree or General Education Degree; or three (3) to five (5) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• J-STD-001 Certificate with an “S” addendum (Space).
• Three (3) + years of manufacturing assembly experience.
• Three (3) + years of hand soldering experience.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent use of hands for handling small components and tools requiring manual dexterity ability.
• Ability to perform similar operations and tasks for 6 to 8 hours.
• Ability to stand for 6 to 8 hours.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally
• Ability to perform visual inspection to perform close‑up inspection tasks for 4 to 6 hours.
• Ability to climb stairs, squat and kneel for 4 to 6 hours.

Working Conditions

• Work performed indoors in environmentally controlled environments with temperatures ranging from 66°F to 90°F.
• Exposure to hazardous material.
• Required use of PPE including smocks, gloves, hairnets/full face covers, shoe covers, and safety‑toed footwear.
• Occasional travel is required to attend trainings.
