Entry Level Solar Power Engineer

Note: Commercial Solar PV Internship is preferred. Power Engineering is a PLUS. Prior experience is a plus.

Ecojiva LLC seeks designers/engineers to support our solar projects system design functions. Provide electrical power and controls designs for solar, power distribution, and lighting projects. Work with senior electrical staff in the delivery of quality technical work and projects to the client. Function in a multi-discipline project team environment to deliver quality design projects and technical reports on assigned projects. The successful candidate will use their knowledge of the National Electric Code and solar PV design concepts. Selected candidate will be held accountable for completing assignments to the high standards of Ecojiva.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Typical duties include PV system design; CAD drawings and sheet set preparation, Design review; Site assessment; System energy modeling, energy estimates; Technology evaluation and risk assessment; Site inspections; Contract review of EPC, Construction monitoring; Equipment commissioning and testing; Travel to client and remote sites.
  • Use computer-aided drafting equipment, electrical design and building modeling software. Draw master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions.
  • Support the preparation of design drawings such as one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, power plans, lighting plans, and electrical detail drawings.
  • Produce electrical equipment lists, load lists, conduit and cable schedules as required for the project.
  • Advise supervisor of project status regarding schedule, budgets, delays, and issues; confer with engineering staff to resolve problems.
  • May supervise, train, and mentor other drafters and designers, and coordinate work within and across disciplines.
  • Assemble documentation packages, produce drawing sets, and maintain proper files and records.
  • Explain drawings to production or construction teams and provide adjustments as necessary, ensuring quality throughout the project.
  • Ensure designs are consistent with project scope, technical requirements, standards, and regulations.
  • Review completed drawings and cost estimates for accuracy and compliance.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures.
  • Under supervision, provide basic drafting services such as maintaining blueprints, maps, charts, and graphs.

Additional duties include:

  • Assist in solar PV systems sizing, equipment selection, and industry best practices for optimized design.
  • Create basis of design documents for engineering of renewable energy projects, defining electrical scope.
  • Provide clients with fee and schedule proposals for engineering work.
  • Attend weekly project calls, respond to client requests, review submittals, and specify equipment.
  • Design and review single-line and three-line diagrams for solar farm interconnections.
  • Use PV Syst/SAM to model energy production based on weather data.
  • Develop Excel tools for engineering calculations.
  • Perform electrical studies typical of renewable energy projects.

This position reports to the Director of Engineering. Must be willing to travel and have good communication skills. Be organized, methodical, and a team player. A Master’s in Electrical Engineering and Power Engineering is required. Experience of 1-3 years is a plus.
