Overview
Position Summary: Responsible for assisting the Solar Technician in assembling, installing, or maintaining solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures, in compliance with site assessments and schematics. This includes measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Promote and comply with all company and safety policies and procedures.
- Use hand tools (e.g., crescent wrench, pliers, hammer, screwdriver) and power tools (e.g., drills, impact wrenches) to install PV systems according to codes, standards, drawings, schematics, and instructions.
- Lay out, assemble, and install solar modules, panels, or support structures as specified.
- Install structural, mechanical, rack systems, and PV panels.
- Lift, carry, and hold building materials, tools, and supplies; maintain a clean work environment.
- Take personal responsibility for health and safety, adhering to Wanzek’s Zero Injury principles, and use stop work authority when necessary.
- Report accidents and near misses; participate in investigations.
- Participate in pre-job planning and safety discussions; identify and mitigate hazards.
- Respond appropriately to safety hazards and warning devices.
- Follow lockout/tag out procedures and attend site-specific training.
- Maintain safety standards and a clean work environment.
- Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers.
- Engage in on-the-job training and mentoring.
- Produce quality work per plans, specifications, and industry standards.
- Assist in storage, planning, and layout of materials.
- Observe functioning of installed systems to identify hazards; notify supervision of issues.
- If certified, operate construction equipment safely and conduct daily inspections.
- Perform other duties as necessary, including working in other crafts as trained.

Requirements
Education and Work Experience:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform basic math operations rapidly and accurately.
- Ability to read and understand plans and specifications; visualize 3D from 2D drawings.
- Experience as a laborer or in construction, with basic knowledge of PV systems.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Determine materials and sequences to maximize efficiency.
- Safely use hand and power tools.
- Communicate effectively and listen to suggestions and safety concerns.
Working Environment
- Construction site environment.
- Work in cramped, awkward, hot, cold, and various weather conditions.
- Work in bright or low lighting; exposure to noise and hazardous equipment.
- This is a safety-sensitive position.
Physical Demands
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, kneel, bend, and move in confined and uneven spaces.
- Work in extreme temperatures and outdoor conditions.
- Walk on steep or uneven terrain.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $15.00-$18.00/hour, depending on experience.
