Job summary

Moss & Associates LLC seeks a Solar Electrical Assistant Superintendent to oversee high‑quality electrical work on multi‑state solar projects with extensive travel. You will coordinate with the Electrical Superintendent and engineering team to ensure compliance with contract drawings and specifications.

The role requires at least a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a minimum of 2 years’ experience with medium‑voltage systems, including installation, testing and commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with medium‑voltage equipment and cable installation.
  • Experience supporting large self‑perform projects.
  • Proficiency with MV cables, testing methods and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure high‑quality electrical installation and underground collection systems.
  • Support drawings reviews, constructability, submittals and RFIs with the engineering team.
  • Develop project schedules with the team and create 3‑week look‑ahead plans.
  • Provide supervision for installation, splicing and termination of fiber optics.
  • Coach field personnel and supervise subcontracted work for safety and quality.
  • Coordinate connection of the power grid to distribution systems and liaise with contractors.
  • Monitor safety, quality and efficiency on all project activities.
  • Prepare reports and operation methods for equipment energization.

Job description

Position

Solar Electrical Assistant Superintendent

Location: Multi‑state, requires high travel

Classification: Full time – exempt – salaried

Reports to: Solar Senior Superintendent

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the high‑quality installation of electrical portions of the project, including the underground electrical collection system
  • Provide support in oversight of drawings, constructability, submittal reviews, and feedback with the engineering team, verifying that the quality of materials, equipment, and workmanship conforms to the specifications and updates of the contract document
  • Work with Electrical Superintendent and General Electrical Superintendent in the development of project schedules and updates, and creation of 3‑week look‑ahead
  • Ensure work teams have the necessary resources and support
  • Help support quality control of work team, including self‑performed and subcontracted work
  • Manage and collaborate with appropriate personnel concerning the connection of the power grid to the existing distribution system
  • Provide supervision support on installation, splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables
  • Participate in project meetings, and provide liaison between field engineers and contractors or craft workers to ensure electrical components of the project comply with drawings and specifications
  • Review/monitor subcontractor procurement of electrical resources, methods, staffing, look‑ahead schedules, and coordination with other site activities
  • Work with engineering staff to ensure plans, specifications, submittals and RFIs are transmitted to subcontractors accurately and timely
  • Monitor safety, quality, and efficiency of subcontracted work on every project
  • Coach, mentor and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents
  • Certify work teams have resources and support
  • Produce various reports, including sequence of operation instructions for equipment use and energization of circuits, and written methods of operation (MOPs)
  • Establish and nurture a teamwork environment
  • Provide work direction and performance evaluations
  • Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions as needed
  • Develop leadership potential through appropriate task assignments and career growth opportunities
  • Handle open shop and union issues
  • Maintain relationships with all visitors to the site: customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, etc.
  • Run site work and logistics efficiently, providing suggestions for improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with medium‑voltage equipment and cable, installation of collection line construction
  • Experience providing support on large self‑perform projects
  • Proficiency in the installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of medium‑voltage cables
  • Knowledgeable about current injection, high‑pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble, and other methods of cable and equipment testing
  • Possess working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, and prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes and vaults for distribution and collection systems, underground and pad‑mount transformer usage, SCADA systems used in the power industry, and testing and commissioning
  • Current driver’s licence
  • 100% travel required with rotations
