Job description

Solar Construction Project Manager (Commercial)

Location: Brooklyn, NY | Hours: Full-time, 40 hrs/week | Status: Exempt, Salaried

About the Role

Brooklyn SolarWorks is hiring a Solar Construction Project Manager to lead our commercial installations across New York City. This role suits someone who's equally comfortable walking a client through a project timeline in the office and walking a roof with an install crew. You'll guide each commercial project through its full lifecycle, from the moment it leaves the sales team until final closeout. Day to day, that means keeping clients, engineers, subcontractors, and BSW's internal teams aligned so every system is built safely, on time, and to spec. One day you might be reviewing drawings or tracking a permit; the next you'll be on-site making sure the installation goes to plan. We know few candidates bring equal strength to both sides of this job. If you're a strong project manager still building your field and construction experience, or a seasoned construction pro who's newer to the formal PM processes, we'd like to hear from you. What counts most is drive, adaptability, and real enthusiasm for solar.

What You'll Do
Pre-Construction & Project Setup
  • Join sales meetings and commercial site surveys to weigh in on projects early
  • Review and confirm contract terms, financing, and scope before work begins
  • Work with engineering, design, and procurement partners to finalize system designs
  • Act as the client's main point of contact from kickoff to closeout
Scheduling, Permitting & Project Tracking
  • Run the weekly commercial operations meeting to review the pipeline and plan install schedules
  • Partner with the permitting team to keep timelines on track, and handle design changes and change orders
  • Finalize and oversee subcontractor agreements
  • Keep project records current in the CRM
Field & Installation Oversight
  • Plan and attend pre-construction site visits and site prep
  • Lead on-site during installation, with a working command of the plans, materials, and methods
  • Direct BSW crews and subcontractors to company quality standards, and enforce all safety requirements
  • Manage added scope such as electrical upgrades, specialty equipment, and site preparation
Closeout & Client Care
  • Secure inspection approvals, set up system monitoring, and file warranty and insurance paperwork
  • Release subcontractor payments and confirm all closeout requirements are met
  • Give clients first-line support on monitoring, billing, and tax credit questions
  • Resolve post-installation issues or escalate them when needed
Process Improvement
  • Keep up with solar and construction industry developments, and suggest improvements to processes and policies
  • Work across teams to make project delivery more efficient
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in at least one of these two areas — project management or construction/field work — and a clear willingness to grow in the other. If you have both, even better.

Required:
  • 3+ years of experience in construction trades, construction management, or project management
  • Ability to read architectural and construction drawings
  • Strong familiarity with standard construction practices, materials, and methods
  • Excellent communication and relationship-management skills — clients, vendors, subs, and crews
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and ability to learn new software quickly
  • Valid NYS driver's license (held 3+ years, clean record in last 36 months) — up to 50% commuting
  • OSHA certification or SST (62-hr) — or willingness to obtain
  • Familiarity with NYC and State building, construction, and zoning codes
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Brooklyn SolarWorks currently does not offer visa sponsorship.
Nice to Have:
  • Solar or renewable energy industry experience
  • Construction Management or Project Management formal training or certification
  • Experience with SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar design tools
  • Familiarity with project management software or CRMs
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
Compensation & Perks

Salary Range: $90,000 - $125,000 commensurate with experience

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance — BSW covers 100% of employee premiums on select medical plans
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan (Traditional & Roth) with 4% tiered company matching — eligible after 6 months
  • Quarterly profit-sharing bonus
  • Paid Time Off + 11 company holidays
  • Pre-tax commuter transportation benefit (MTA MetroCard)
  • HSA and FSA options
  • Free Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
