Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Solar Cell Factory Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and optimize mechanical and automation systems for high-volume solar cell production. You will own subsystems from conception through automated ramp, driving system-level optimization and reliability analyses.

The role requires BS in engineering, CAD/FEA experience, and 1+ year in mechanical design; advanced degrees and leadership in complex projects are highly valued. ITAR compliance and weekend shifts may be necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering
• Experience with CAD and FEA software
• 1+ years of mechanical/electromechanical design and testing
• Master’s degree preferred with 3+ years in design and analysis
• 2+ years hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (NX preferred)
• Understanding of GD&T and manufacturability

Responsibilities

• Own electronics manufacturing subsystems and equipment from conceptual design through high-volume production and automation ramp
• Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization
• Test and iterate on products with FMEA, reliability modeling, and stress testing
• Design and develop production lines including robot end-effector design and automation programming
• Monitor uptime metrics and implement preventive maintenance to maximize availability
• Evaluate and select equipment suppliers and oversee installation and commissioning
