Base pay range

$3125/hr - $40.50/hr

The Soils Manufacturing and Compost Operations Supervisor is primarily responsible for building engineered soils, managing the composting program, and managing the Material Handling Area. He or she recognizes that high quality soils and compost promote healthy plant growth and establish the foundation for beautiful and useful landscapes across the BYU campus.

What you’ll do in this position:

• Manage the Material Handling Area (MHA) Operations
• Design and enhance campus soils
• Manage compost operations
• Manage recycling operations
• Oversee training and safety
• Snow removal

What qualifies you for this role:

Required qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related field -OR-
• Experience: At least 2 years of full-time professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Landscape management or grounds maintenance
• Environmental science or land stewardship
• Heavy equipment operation related to grounds or construction work
• Other directly related fields involving plant care, soil management, or site operations
• Ability to pass post-offer physical exam and lift test
• Applicable supervisory and training skills
• Adhere to and train others in safety guidelines
• Operate heavy equipment: loaders, trommel screen, grinder, recycling baler

Preferred qualifications

• Hold a current Class A Commercial Driver’s License
• Ability to operate hook trucks
• Sound understanding of soil science, applied soil physics, horticulture, and soil mechanics
• Sound understanding of soil testing concepts and techniques
