Job summary

Ncagr is seeking a Chemistry Technician I to join the Soil Testing Lab in North Carolina. You will perform high-volume soil analyses, prepare standards, and maintain meticulous records to support soil fertility recommendations for residents.

The role requires lifting up to 45 lbs, standing for long periods, and following SOPs in a fast-paced environment. Training and a written practicum will assess analytical chemistry knowledge during interviews.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in chemical, biological, microbiological, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum including related chemistry laboratory coursework from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 45 lbs. regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Subsampling soil samples using volumetric scoops.
  • Weighing soil samples on an analytical balance.
  • Extracting nutrients from soil samples.
  • Determining soil pH and electrical conductivity.
  • Conducting UV/VIS spectroscopy analysis.
  • Utilizing a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Evaluating data for accuracy.
  • Preparing solutions and standards.
  • Maintaining accurate records.
  • Cleaning labware.
  • Adhering to SOPs and safety protocols.
