Job description

Software Testing and Deployment Engineer (Army C2)

The Software Deployment Engineer provides contractor support for the testing, deployment, fielding, and training of Army command and control (C2) software applications. The position requires close coordination with software development, testing, systems engineering, cybersecurity, logistics, product support, and Government program teams to ensure software is technically validated, deployment-ready, adequately documented, and successfully transitioned to operational users.

The incumbent applies practical knowledge of software deployment, testing, release management, production environments, system integration, and the Army materiel fielding process as it applies to software-enabled capabilities. The incumbent will support the G-6 team and coordinate with G-4 stakeholders and other mission partners, as required, to assist with operational and technical training, service documentation, and knowledge-transfer processes supporting fielded software.

Key Responsibilities
Software Testing and Deployment Readiness
  • Support planning, execution, documentation, and tracking of software test activities, including functional, integration, regression, user acceptance, and operational test events, as assigned.
  • Evaluate software releases for deployment readiness by verifying completion of required test evidence, defect resolution, configuration baselines, documentation, cybersecurity artifacts, and deployment prerequisites with Government stakeholders on software readiness.
  • Support release-management activities, including version control, software baseline, deployment scheduling, and post-deployment verification.
  • Assist with troubleshooting software installation, configuration, integration, interoperability, and performance issues across development, test, training, and operational environments; collect and analyze test results, user feedback, and operational observations to identify software defects, deployment risks, and improvement opportunities; and report findings, status, and recommended corrective actions to Government stakeholders.
Army Software Fielding and Materiel Process Support
  • Coordinate with program G4, G6, and operational stakeholders to identify fielding requirements, dependencies, site-readiness criteria, constraints, and sustainment considerations.
  • Coordinate with program G4, on the development and maintenance of fielding plans, deployment schedules, software distribution packages, technical installation instructions, infrastructure requirements, and acceptance-support documentation.
  • Participate in fielding coordination meetings, integrated product teams, technical interchange meetings, site surveys, deployment events, and after-action reviews, as required.
  • Identify fielding lessons learned and recommend improvements to deployment processes, technical documentation, training programs, and sustainment procedures.
Stakeholder Coordination and Reporting
  • Serve as a technical liaison among software development teams, test organizations, G-4 stakeholders, fielding teams, and Government representatives.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, deployment status updates, risk registers, issue trackers, meeting minutes, training reports, and decision-support materials.
  • Track action items, dependencies, risks, milestones, and deliverables associated with software testing, release, fielding, training, and sustainment.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, software engineering, computer science, information technology, logistics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering, software testing, software deployment, release management, systems integration, technical training, or software fielding support.
  • Familiarity with Army or Joint tactical software applications, software deployment platforms, production environments, endpoint or server-based installation processes, cloud or hybrid environments, and system integration dependencies.
  • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle, Agile and/or DevSecOps practices, configuration management, and release-management principles.
  • Experience with modern deployment technologies and environments, including Linux/Unix operating systems, virtualization (VMware, KVM), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting software test events, defect tracking, deployment preparation, software installation, production releases, or operational rollout activities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting programs at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) or within Army C2 environments
  • Experience coordinating with Army G-4 organizations, field support representatives, or comparable organizations supporting software-enabled capabilities.
  • Experience using automated testing tools, defect-tracking systems, configuration-management tools, release-management tools, and collaboration platforms.
