You will support migrations and modernization of legacy, mission-critical Coast Guard capabilities to the Coast Guard’s Mission Cloud.

Job Description

As a Software Tester/Developer Engineer, you will have the opportunity to design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and debug software programs for enhancements and new software-intensive systems and products. Apply appropriate principles, standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle. Duties include software requirements analysis, development of software products and tools used for design, development, and maintenance of infrastructure and platforms.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Participate in program Agile initiatives to support innovation and enhancement of infrastructure automation and maintenance through iteration/functionality testing within a cloud environment.
  • Leverage DevOps practices to ensure repeatability and configuration management of test cases/scripts are maintained and continuously improved.
  • Collaborate with team members (Scrum Master, Cloud Engineer, DevSecOps) to develop test approaches emphasizing automation of recurring/regression test cases through selected toolsets.
  • Develop and document end-to-end functionality test case narratives using task management systems (JIRA/Confluence) and support performance testing/evaluation activities.
Basic Qualifications
  • Requires BS and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2+ years of prior relevant experience; additional years considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 3–5 years of testing experience with at least 2 years in cloud environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Strong scripting/programming: Bash, Python, and at least one build system (Maven/Gradle/npm/Bazel) and Docker image build knowledge.
  • Understanding of monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus).
  • Knowledge of networking concepts (VPC, subnets, load balancers, DNS).
  • Proficiency in major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Understanding of cloud services architecture, networking, storage, and compute resources.
  • Experience with cloud-native testing approaches and distributed systems testing.
  • Proven experience implementing pipelines in Harness (CI + CD) or other modern CI/CD platforms; comfortable with visual and YAML pipeline editors.
  • Hands-on experience with IaC tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager, or Ansible.
  • Ability to write, review, and test infrastructure code.
  • Understanding of version control for infrastructure and GitOps practices.
  • Automated testing frameworks and tools (Selenium, pytest, Jest, etc.).
  • API testing tools (Postman, REST Assured, SoapUI).
  • Performance and load testing (JMeter, LoadRunner, k6).
  • Multi-region and cross-availability zone testing.
  • Compliance and security testing in cloud environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Cloud provider certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Fundamentals, GCP Associate) and testing certifications (ISTQB, CSTE).
  • DevOps or automation-focused certifications.
