Job Description

Position Summary

• The Simulated Use Department at Intuitive Surgical is dedicated to ensuring the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of its products. The Senior Engineering Technician will work with Development and Sustaining Engineering teams to ensure product quality, identify hardware and software issues, and advocate design improvements across the da Vinci Surgical System product lines.
• Assure the quality of new designs and identify product quality issues involving surgical instruments, accessories, software subsystems, and hardware.
• Drive resolution of product quality issues through data analysis, reporting, and change advocacy.
• Develop expertise in customer use of Intuitive Surgical products, product failure modes, and debugging tools to identify substandard product performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and management teams to advocate design improvements and support product and process quality throughout development and production.

Responsibilities

• Execute processes and procedures, test methods, and fixtures for clinical simulation utilizing clinical and engineering knowledge.
• Execute test protocols for clinically based surgical simulation, automated testing, and functional verification.
• Generate test plans, protocols, and reports with guidance from appropriate engineering teams.
• Participate in the product development lifecycle, including the design review process. Review design documentation and UI prototypes to assess usability.
• Learn the elements of the software build process to effectively execute, monitor, and troubleshoot as necessary.
• Evaluate instrument designs using measurement devices and inspection tools.
• Identify, reproduce, and elevate new or persistent software- or hardware-related failure modes to management and appropriate Engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and document all findings in the ISI bug-tracking database.
• Complete documentation of test protocols, results, and reports.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, along with 6+ years of experience working in a software test environment.
• Proficiency in Linux OS, including navigating the file system, managing processes, and executing client commands through the terminal.
• Ability to read and effectively navigate technical documentation.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in teams.
• Quick learner who takes direction well, demonstrates initiative, and values shared responsibility and team success.
• Ability to handle raw meat for testing purposes, including chicken, beef, and pork products.

Preferred Qualifications / Nice to Have

• Experience with software quality assurance testing methodologies.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline.
