Job summary

3M in Minnesota is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a world-class team. You will contribute to architecture, design, and implementation of scalable software for embedded devices, spanning Linux and Windows platforms, with focus on low-latency network communication over Wi-Fi.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Seven (7) years of full-stack or embedded device software development in a private, public, government or military environment.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, maintainable software for Linux and Windows-based platforms.
  • Designing low-latency, time-critical network communications over Wi-Fi.
  • Implementing short-range, low-power wireless technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy, NFC and UWB.
  • Applying security best practices, including encryption and secure communications, across system design and implementation.
  • Troubleshooting and optimizing software performance, reliability, and interoperability across hardware and software interfaces.
  • Developing, enhancing, and maintaining high-performance, complex C/C++ software for embedded and device-level systems.
  • Providing technical leadership on a cross-functional team and contribute to engineering best practices for a mid-senior level role.

Your Skills And Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Seven (7) years of full-stack or embedded device software development in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Deep knowledge of audio and voice processing algorithms.
  • Experience with digital signal processing concepts and implementations.
  • Have a working knowledge of industrial automation protocols such as CIP, OPC-UA, and MQTT.
  • Ability to work effectively across a broad technology stack and to coordinate with external development resources.
  • Proficiency with AI software development tools
Work location
  • Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
  • Travel: May include up to 10% domestic or international
  • Relocation: May be authorized
