Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) in Arlington, VA is seeking a Software Systems Engineer Intern to join the Missile Defense team. You will develop automated test and analysis for tactical systems and subsystems supporting DoD air and surface warfare platforms, and work with software engineers and system architects to deliver end-to-end capabilities.

The role requires on-site work, eligibility to obtain a Secret security clearance, and proficiency in Java, JavaScript, C++, and Python.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in CS/CE/EE/Systems Eng.
• Rising seniors preferred
• Ability to code in Java/JavaScript/C++/Python (at least two) and other languages
• Experience with SDLC concepts and relational databases

About The Role:

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a leading defense technology company, is seeking a Software Systems Engineer Intern to be part of our Missile Defense team and based out of our Arlington, VA location.

The selected Software Systems Engineer Intern will be responsible for developing IDT's automated test and analysis for tactical systems and subsystems supporting DOD air and surface warfare platforms such as guided-missile destroyer, guided-missile cruisers, and littoral combat ship. Additional responsibilities include the development of project integration solutions and analysis capabilities for the Aegis Combat System. The Intern will also work with software engineers, system architects, integration engineers, and subject matter experts to deliver end-to-end mission

Clearance & Location Requirements:

• All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
• This is a fully on-site position based out of our Arlington, VA location.

What You Will Do:

• DoD Air and Surface Warfare related software design, development, and analysis
• Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
• Model/code testing algorithms in C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java
• Integrate software components into a complex software Dev environment
• Implement documented design including coding and testing while adhering to coding standards
• Participate and provide feedback in design reviews & code reviews
• Develop automated software analysis solutions for Aegis test events
• Interface with customers for technical and programmatic requirements
• Oversee relevant aspects of project lifecycle from initial kickoff through requirements analysis, design, testing and implementation phases for projects
• Contribute to Systems Integration practice
• Assist with the integration of new applications as they are added to the tactical environment
• Create and implement interface following Model Based System Engineering approach

Who You Are (Required):

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program with a major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or related field
• Current college juniors/rising seniors preferred
• Ability to develop software in Java, JavaScript, C++, or Python [at least two] and other programming languages
• Ability to document requirements and specifications
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Familiarity with SQL and relational (MS-SQL, Oracle, Postgres, etc.) databases
• Familiarity with distributed systems and software design patterns
• Familiarity with Agile development processes

What Makes You Stand Out:

• System integration and test experience for complex software applications
• Have hands-on experience with Java/J2EE and object-oriented programming
• Experience programming in Java, C++, JavaScript, Python, and database design [all]
• Proficiency working with different SW development tools (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, and Nexus, Git etc.)
• Experience with distributed systems, algorithms, and software design patterns

Pay Range*: $28 - $34 / Hour

This amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate's experience, skills, and education. The posted range does not include bonuses, commissions, tips, or other benefits. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
