Job summary

Torch Technologies is seeking a Software Systems Engineer to support the Air & Missile Business Unit on customer-site programs in Huntsville, AL. The role emphasizes MBSE, systems-level thinking, and collaboration with software, test, and integration teams.

Requirements include US citizenship, an STEM degree, 5–8 years of relevant experience, knowledge of MBSE and Agile practices, and an active Secret clearance. Travel up to 10% may be required; relocation not offered.

Qualifications

• US Citizenship is required.
• Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
• 5–8 years of relevant systems/software engineering experience.
• Experience with software-intensive systems (distributed apps, embedded, real-time).
• Knowledge of requirements analysis, decomposition, and modeling concepts.
• Experience creating/updating use cases, activity diagrams, interfaces, or artifacts.
• Experience with MBSE tools/practices.
• Familiar with Agile and Jira/Confluence.
• Proficient in MS Office and clear technical communication.
• Active Secret security clearance and ability to maintain it.
• Ability to work onsite as required by program.

Responsibilities

• Decompose system requirements into software requirements and document traceability.

Software Systems Engineer to support the Air & Missile Business Unit.

As a Software Systems Engineer your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

• Support the development and maintenance of requirements, interface definitions, system models, and verification criteria for complex software-intensive systems.
• Develop and update use cases, activity diagrams, logical and behavioral models, and other systems engineering artifacts using MBSE practices.
• Assist with decomposing system requirements into software-level requirements and documenting traceability, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
• Coordinate with software developers, integration teams, and test engineers to clarify expected system behavior and investigate technical issues.
• Support system integration, interface analysis, and verification activities for distributed or interconnected systems.
• Participate in Agile planning meetings, technical reviews, and working groups; prepare technical documentation, analyses, and briefings for project stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• US Citizenship.
• Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field.
• 5 to 8 years of relevant systems engineering, software engineering, or related technical experience.
• Experience working with software-intensive systems, such as distributed applications, embedded systems, real-time systems, or mission-critical platforms.
• Working knowledge of requirements analysis and decomposition, systems modeling, and software or system verification concepts.
• Experience creating or updating use cases, activity diagrams, interface descriptions, or other engineering artifacts.
• Experience with MagicDraw or a comparable systems modeling tool.
• Familiarity with Agile development practices and collaboration or issue-tracking tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to communicate technical information clearly in writing and presentations.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Active Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain it.
• Ability to work onsite as required by program or customer needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Systems Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Experience applying MBSE methods to complex software or system-of-systems engineering efforts.
• Familiarity with modular open systems architecture principles, integration, and interface management.
• Experience supporting defense, command and control, sensor, or other mission-critical systems.
• Familiarity with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), sprint planning, or program increment planning.
