Job description

  • The Quality Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, analyzing, and executing critical software engineering and quality assurance processes across the enterprise. This position develops testing strategies, validates healthcare data integrations, and identifies risks, defects, and process issues that may affect the quality of business and technology solutions.
  • The Quality Engineer collaborates with cross-functional project teams to ensure established quality goals are incorporated into each solution. This role supports healthcare interoperability initiatives involving APIs, SFTP, Kafka, FHIR, HL7, and electronic health record platforms while providing application and process owners with recommendations for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute test plans, test cases, test scripts, and validation procedures for healthcare applications, data integrations, and interoperability solutions.
  • Perform functional, integration, regression, system, end-to-end, and data-validation testing.
  • Test healthcare data exchanges involving APIs, SFTP, Kafka, FHIR, HL7 v2/v3, and electronic health record platforms.
  • Perform source-to-target data mapping, reconciliation, and validation to ensure data is transferred accurately and completely between systems.
  • Analyze business requirements, technical specifications, data mappings, and integration requirements to determine appropriate testing coverage.
  • Identify, document, communicate, and track defects, risks, data discrepancies, and process issues through resolution.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, software engineers, architects, product owners, application owners, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ensure established quality standards, controls, and goals are incorporated into business and technology solutions.
  • Participate in and facilitate problem-solving sessions involving software defects, data-quality issues, integration failures, and process gaps.
  • Support test automation activities and identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency, repeatability, and coverage.
  • Perform quality-control activities throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Estimate testing effort, resource requirements, schedules, and deliverables for assigned initiatives.
  • Develop quality reports, testing metrics, defect summaries, status updates, and supporting documentation.
  • Provide consistent and timely feedback to application and process owners regarding quality results, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enterprise software engineering, testing, and quality assurance processes.
  • Provide guidance regarding required software artifacts, testing documentation, and enterprise-supported processes.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, backlog refinement, daily meetings, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Maintain clear documentation of testing activities, findings, decisions, and final results.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field required.
  • One to three years of experience in software quality assurance, quality engineering, software testing, data integration testing, or a related technical discipline required.
  • Candidates with four or more years of relevant experience may also be considered.
  • One to three years of experience working with FHIR required.
  • One to three years of experience working with Kafka required.
  • One to three years of experience working in an Agile delivery environment required.
  • Healthcare or health insurance industry experience required.
  • HL7 v2 and HL7 v3 testing knowledge and experience required.
  • Experience performing source-to-target data mapping, data validation, and data reconciliation required.
  • Experience analyzing business problems, requirements, technical specifications, and data needs required.
  • Experience developing and executing test plans, test cases, test scripts, and testing documentation required.
  • Experience testing healthcare data integrations and interoperability solutions required.
  • Experience testing APIs, SFTP-based integrations, Kafka data streams, and electronic health record platforms required.
  • Experience performing integration, regression, end-to-end, and data-validation testing required.
  • Experience with defect identification, documentation, tracking, retesting, and resolution required.
  • Experience supporting test automation activities required.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a cross-functional delivery team required.

  • Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, quality assurance practices, and quality-control processes.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive test plans, test scenarios, test cases, test scripts, and expected results.
  • Knowledge of functional, integration, regression, system, end-to-end, and data-validation testing.
  • Strong understanding of source-to-target mapping, data reconciliation, data transformation, and data-quality validation.
  • Ability to analyze healthcare data exchanges and identify missing, inaccurate, duplicated, or incorrectly transformed data.
  • Knowledge of API, SFTP, event-streaming, and healthcare interoperability testing.
  • Working knowledge of FHIR and HL7 v2/v3 healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Working knowledge of Kafka and event-driven data integration.
  • Ability to test integrations involving electronic health record platforms such as Epic and Oracle Health.
  • Experience identifying, documenting, prioritizing, tracking, and retesting software defects.
  • Knowledge of test automation concepts, tools, and processes.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle and Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate technical testing results and data-quality findings into clear information for business and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage assigned responsibilities, and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with business, engineering, architecture, quality assurance, product, application, and vendor teams.
