Software Quality and Delivery Lead

Position Overview. Sunflower Therapeutics PBC is recruiting a motivated and highly organized individual to support its mission to dramatically reduce the time and cost to develop and manufacture biologics for patients around the world. Sunflower is advancing “right-sized” and efficient approaches to manufacturing proteins using strain engineering, integrated process development, and automated multi-product facilities. Reporting to the Director of Engineering Operations, the Software Quality and Delivery Lead will serve as the primary human-in-the-loop quality authority and delivery lead for the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). In this role, the candidate will oversee feature execution by evaluating and approving AI-generated code and technical outputs, ensure rigorous technical and regulatory documentation, and act as a proactive and transparent communicator. As Sunflower grows, the Software Quality and Delivery Lead will support the scaling of our AI-assisted software delivery workflows, quality management processes, and engineering team training.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Audit code generated by agentic software development pipeline against input specifications and acceptance criteria prior to merging, assessing correctness, system architecture, error handling, and security
• Drive Test Plan authoring using AI-assisted test generation tools to establish robust unit, integration, and edge-case coverage
• Manage the software release lifecycle, ensuring all code releases are properly versioned, documented, and coordinated with hardware updates
• Author and maintain core technical documentation including architecture documents and Design Specifications, ensuring strict adherence to Sunflower’s Quality Management System (QMS) and quality risk management guidelines
• Audit software process documentation and release notes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policy and regulatory standards prior to final sign-off
• Develop onboarding protocols and training materials to educate team members on Sunflower’s SDLC, AI workflows, and QMS documentation standards

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 2+ years of experience in software development, technical lead, or QA engineering roles with a track record of conducting thorough code reviews, evaluating system architecture, and enforcing coding standards
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, functioning as a proactive and transparent communicator who can easily navigate complex technical discussions and keep cross-functional teams and management aligned
• Familiarity with establishing unit, integration, and edge-case test strategies, along with hands-on experience using AI-assisted tools for code generation, test creation, or documentation
• Proven track record of exceptional technical writing, with the ability to translateengineering strategy into clear, actionable requirements and documentation
• Proven experience maintaining strict data integrity compliance, rigorous peer-review protocols, and formal software change control within a software team
• Foundational understanding of agentic development workflows, AI Copilots, and how autonomous tools integrate into a standard development cycle
• Background in bioprocessing, laboratory automation, medical devices, or life sciences is preferred
