HP IQ is seeking a Software Product Security Engineer to advance secure, privacy-focused technologies across HP IQ devices. You will work with security, firmware, OS, hardware, and cloud engineers to protect customer data.
Join a team developing security features in embedded systems, PCs, and servers using C/C++/Java, across Linux, AOSP, and Windows environments. Expect threat modeling, SDLC practices, and hands-on analysis throughout the product lifecycle.
As a Software Engineer specializing in Device Security, you will contribute to building secure, privacy-focused technologies for HP IQ's next generation of AI-enabled devices. You’ll work alongside experienced security, firmware, operating system, hardware, and cloud engineers to help protect customer data and strengthen the security of our products. In this role, you’ll develop and implement security features across embedded systems, PCs, and server-class workstations. You’ll gain hands‑on experience with areas such as secure boot, cryptography, device identity, secure communication, and data protection while contributing to products throughout the development lifecycle. This is an opportunity for an engineer who has a strong foundation in software development and an interest in device security to deepen their technical expertise while working on complex, real‑world security challenges.
Develop and implement security features for embedded and connected devices, including secure boot, key management, encryption, device identity, and data protection. Contribute to the design and implementation of secure software components using established security architectures and industry best practices. Collaborate with engineers across CoreOS, Firmware, Design, Hardware, and Cloud Services to integrate security capabilities into HP IQ products. Develop and maintain software in C, C++, Java, or related languages across embedded, AOSP, Linux, or Windows environments. Contribute to TrustZone, TEE, kernel-level, or other hardware-backed security applications with guidance from experienced engineers. Help implement secure communication channels between devices and services while protecting sensitive and personal data. Work with biometric sensors and other hardware components to support secure data flows across device boundaries. Participate in threat modeling, security reviews, vulnerability analysis, testing, and remediation activities. Apply secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices throughout the development process. Investigate security issues, troubleshoot software and system-level problems, and contribute to solutions that improve product security and reliability.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Typically 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience, including experience with embedded systems, operating systems, firmware, or security-related development. Programming experience in C, C++, Java, or a similar systems programming language. Foundational understanding of software and device security concepts such as secure boot, cryptography, authentication, access control, PKI, or application sandboxing. Experience developing or debugging software in embedded, Linux, AOSP, Windows, or similar environments. Understanding of software development fundamentals, including debugging, testing, code reviews, source control, and software development lifecycle practices. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and cross-functional partners to solve technical problems. Strong interest in developing deeper expertise in device security, cryptography, privacy, and secure systems.
Experience or coursework involving embedded systems, consumer electronics, IoT, operating systems, firmware, or device security. Familiarity with AOSP or Linux security technologies such as TrustZone, TEE, Android Verified Boot (AVB), Keystore, or SELinux. Familiarity with common cryptographic concepts, authentication mechanisms, certificates, or PKI. Exposure to hardware-backed security, secure elements, TPMs, biometric systems, or trusted execution environments. Experience with security testing, vulnerability analysis, threat modeling, or secure coding practices. Familiarity with privacy and security frameworks or standards such as GDPR, CCPA, or ISO. Curiosity and a desire to continue developing expertise in security, privacy, embedded systems and emerging technologies.
