Job summary

Simpson Strong-Tie in Pleasanton, CA seeks a Software Product Manager to partner with cross‑functional teams to deliver software products that solve customer problems and drive business value. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • 5+ years of Agile software product development experience.

  • Ability to define, measure, and communicate product success metrics and KPIs.

The Software Product Manager partners closely with the Group Product Manager, customers, business stakeholders, UX designers, and software engineering teams to deliver software products that solve meaningful customer problems and create business value. This role is responsible for understanding customer needs through research and analysis, translating insights into product requirements, prioritizing product investments, and guiding cross‑functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle. The Product Manager continuously evaluates product performance, customer feedback, and market opportunities to improve product outcomes and support company growth.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)
Product Planning and Prioritization (25%)

Define, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog based on business value, customer impact, technical feasibility, and strategic objectives. Develop clear product requirements, epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and release scope that enable teams to deliver high-quality software. Collaborate with engineering and design teams to ensure requirements are sufficiently defined and aligned to roadmap goals, and regularly refine priorities as new data, customer feedback, and business needs emerge.

Guide Collaborative Product Efforts (25%)

Facilitate effective collaboration among engineering, UX/UI design, quality assurance, technical writing, customer‑facing teams, and business stakeholders throughout the product development process. Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews, release readiness, and launch activities to ensure alignment with customer needs and business objectives. Identify and proactively address risks, dependencies, and obstacles that may impact successful delivery, product quality, or customer outcomes. Work with development and technical writing teams to prepare release notes and customer‑facing product communications.

Partner with the Business and Customers (20%)

Partner with stakeholders, customers, and business leaders to understand strategic objectives, customer needs, and market opportunities. Conduct customer interviews, feedback sessions, and research activities to identify pain points and validate product opportunities. Collaborate with sales, marketing, customer success, implementation, and engineering teams to translate business objectives and customer insights into measurable product outcomes and value‑added product enhancements.

Measure Product Success (10%)

Establish and monitor key product performance indicators, including adoption, engagement, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, quality, and business impact. Analyze product usage data, customer feedback, support trends, and stakeholder input to identify opportunities for improvement. Use quantitative and qualitative insights to guide decision making, validate product investments, and recommend future enhancements.

Leadership through Influence (10%)

Demonstrate product leadership through influence, collaboration, and effective communication. Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of continuous learning, accountability, innovation, and customer‑centric decision making. Foster strong cross‑functional relationships and help align teams around shared priorities, clear outcomes, and successful product delivery.

Share the Vision (10%)

Communicate product strategy, vision, priorities, and roadmap context to development teams and stakeholders. Ensure product decisions align with company goals, customer needs, portfolio objectives, technical constraints, and operational considerations. Advocate for customer value while balancing business goals, delivery capacity, and long‑term product sustainability.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Product Management, or a related field required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience working in an Agile (Scrum/Kanban) software product development environment.
  • Experience managing the lifecycle of SaaS, cloud‑based, web, mobile, or enterprise software products.
  • Experience writing epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, product requirements, and release scope for software development teams.
  • Experience prioritizing competing initiatives using customer impact, business value, data, risk, and technical feasibility.
  • Experience conducting customer interviews, product discovery, feedback sessions, market research, or competitive analysis.
  • Ability to leverage product analytics, customer insights, and business metrics to make data‑informed product decisions.
  • Experience defining, measuring, and communicating product success metrics and KPIs.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering, UX/UI design, QA, technical writing, implementation, customer success, sales, and marketing teams.
  • Experience in construction technology, estimating software, building products, dealer software, ERP systems, CRM systems, quoting solutions, or residential construction workflows preferred.
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning‑enabled products, workflow automation, and emerging software technologies preferred.
