Job summary

Nexteer Automotive is seeking a CPI Product Application Engineer (Software) in Saginaw, MI to drive embedded software development for steering systems. You will lead design, testing, and release activities, ensuring robust, traceable requirements across cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes DFMEAs, defect resolution, and collaboration with manufacturing and service centers. A strong engineering foundation and team mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science is required.
• Educational background in the principles and processes used to design and develop electrical systems (electrical hardware and software).
• Familiarity with embedded controllers (i.e. how a controller can be used to operate physical system with sensors, actuators & a motor).
• Proficient with Microsoft Operating Systems and Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience performing engineering calculations using computational tools and spreadsheets (e.g., MATLAB, Microsoft Excel).
• Excellent communication skills and a desire to work pleasantly with colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Be an integral contributor to a team focused on ECU SW for steering systems.
• Plan, develop, test and track feature design statuses for SW of electrical controllers.
• Conduct DFMEAs and DoEs on planned designs to ensure robustness.
• Support requirement traceability initiatives to ensure verifications are completed.
• Coordinate system-level releases of embedded merged software for projects.
• Own and track defect resolution regarding complex hardware/software design challenges.
• Interface with Customer Service Center teams and OEMs as needed.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to build and test prototype/production samples.
• Work with project management to achieve gate review deliverables in design, quality, reliability and cost.
