About the Role

Canonical, a leader in open source software and operating systems, is seeking an engineering manager passionate about operational systems, open source, and cutting-edge hardware. You will lead engineering teams to optimize Ubuntu for the latest x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x, and POWER systems, collaborating with silicon vendors to enhance platform performance and features.

Responsibilities

1. Lead and develop a team of engineers from graduate to senior levels.
2. Oversee project delivery and support customer engagements involving system architectures.
3. Implement disciplined engineering processes and contribute to code reviews and documentation.
4. Optimize Ubuntu for new hardware platforms and integrate platform-specific software stacks.
5. Display technical leadership internally and externally, influencing culture and strategy.

Qualifications

• Strong academic background in STEM, with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in C, C++, and Python.
• Experience with Linux, kernel or user space, and distro packaging.
• Leadership experience in software engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills in English and confidence in technical discussions.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with open source communities, computer architecture, build systems, and cross-compilation.
• Knowledge of virtualization, networking, graphics stacks, and container technologies.
