Job summary

Jobot in Indiana is seeking a Software Patent Prosecution Attorney to lead drafting of patent applications and manage the prosecution process for software inventions. You will translate technical concepts into patentable subject matter, build strategic portfolios, and work closely with founders, in-house counsel, product leaders, and engineering teams.

The role requires a JD, USPTO registration, and at least five years of software-focused patent experience with a track record of drafting 100+

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Licensed attorney in good standing.
• Registration to practice before the USPTO.
• At least 5 years of software-focused patent preparation and prosecution experience at a law firm.
• At least 100 patents drafted from scratch.
• Strong drafting skills across specs, claims, and responses, with a track record of moving applications forward efficiently.
• Experience with AI-related inventions, cloud systems, cybersecurity, distributed systems, databases, networking, or similar software domains.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patentability and landscape analysis to guide filing decisions, continuation strategy, and competitive positioning
• Maintain excellent client communication, timelines, and docket hygiene across multiple matters

What You’ll Do

Nice to Have

• Experience advising on portfolio strategy for product lines, platform releases, and roadmap-driven filing programs
• Prior client-facing responsibility including scoping, timelines, and expectation-setting
• Exposure to post-grant support, informal validity risk review, and freedom-to-operate style issue spotting
