Job description

Employment Type: Full-Time (Permanent)

About the Opportunity

The team at Edge has partnered with an innovative AI startup transforming manufacturing through advanced computer vision technology.

Our client is seeking a Software Integration Engineer to develop and integrate industrial vision systems into AI-powered manufacturing software. This is a software engineering role that works closely with hardware, with a primary focus on camera integration, image acquisition, backend services, and Python development.

You’ll work within an existing Python codebase to troubleshoot issues, improve performance, refactor and optimize existing software, develop new features, and build scalable, maintainable solutions that power industrial camera integration and image acquisition.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an early-stage, high-growth company where you’ll have significant ownership over a core part of the product while collaborating with software, AI, and hardware engineering teams.

Responsibilities
Software Development & Camera Integration
  • Enhance and maintain the existing Python codebase by debugging issues, refactoring code, improving performance, and developing new functionality for industrial vision and image acquisition systems.
  • Develop and maintain industrial camera integrations using GenICam-compatible SDKs and APIs.
  • Build and maintain backend services supporting camera management and image capture.
  • Troubleshoot image acquisition issues, including latency, dropped frames, synchronization, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Configure and optimize camera settings including exposure, gain, triggering, and lighting synchronization.
  • Partner closely with software engineers to improve system scalability, reliability, and performance.
Hardware & Manufacturing Integration
  • Support integration of industrial vision hardware into manufacturing environments.
  • Evaluate cameras, optics, lenses, and lighting solutions.
  • Assist with hardware deployment and system validation.
  • Support PLC and industrial automation integrations when required.
  • Interface with manufacturing customers to ensure reliable system performance.
  • Participate in architectural discussions and future platform development.
  • Identify opportunities to improve software performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation and rapid product development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of professional Python development experience.
  • 2+ years integrating industrial cameras within manufacturing, automation, robotics, or machine vision environments.
  • Experience developing software around GenICam-compatible cameras and camera SDKs.
  • Experience with industrial networking protocols such as GigE Vision, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, or OPC UA.
  • Strong software debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Basler industrial cameras and the Pylon SDK/API.
  • Experience building backend services or distributed software.
  • PLC programming or industrial controls experience.
  • SCADA experience.
  • Machine vision or computer vision experience.
  • Startup experience.
  • Robotics or manufacturing automation experience.
What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will become the technical owner for industrial camera software integration, delivering reliable image acquisition pipelines, scalable backend services, and robust vision system integrations that enable AI-powered manufacturing solutions across a growing customer base.
