Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an engineer to design and implement a software simulation testbed for spaceflight systems. You will own planning, architecture, requirements, certification, and implementation for the simulation environment and models.

You will collaborate with the development and testing teams and external customers to deliver robust simulation solutions that reflect real-world spaceflight scenarios and hardware data. This role emphasizes safety, reliability, and mission impact.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience developing aerospace software simulation testbeds for innovative systems.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ development and strong Python scripting.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems and embedded control systems, APIs, interfaces, and device drivers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating and documenting release strategies and processes.
  • Develop sophisticated simulation models and accurate test scripts.
  • Collaborate with external customers and internal teams to capture requirements for simulation solutions.
  • Develop and execute tests on simulations to ensure model robustness.
  • Anchor simulations to hardware data during integration efforts.
  • Travel up to 10-15% domestically as needed.

About the role

We are working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will be a key player in creating a groundbreaking software simulation testbed. Join our team and be at the forefront of innovation, taking ownership of planning, architectural design, requirements gathering, certification, and implementation for the exciting new software simulation testbed. Your expertise will be vital in owning development and planning of simulation models and test scripts. You’ll contribute to critical work being performed by the development and testing teams, implementing simulation solutions crucial for the project's success. Moreover, you’ll develop sophisticated simulation models that precisely reflect scenarios and craft detailed test scripts to guarantee integration and test events. Collaborate with teammates and valued customers to capture essential requirements, contributing to the creation of a comprehensive testbed for the Blue Ring Spacecraft that supports a wide range of development and operational activities. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight. Responsibilities
  • Contribute to comprehensive release strategy, meticulous coordination, and detailed documentation processes.
  • Craft sophisticated and accurate simulation models that push the boundaries of what’s possible.
  • Work with external customers and internal engineering teams to develop customer‑specific simulation solution requirements.
  • Develop and execute tests on simulations to ensure robustness of models.
  • Develop intricate test scripts designed to ensure detailed integration and the success of crucial test events.
  • Support hardware/software integration efforts including anchoring simulations to hardware data.
  • Up to 10-15% domestic travel required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Over 3 years of relevant proven expertise in developing aerospace software simulation testbeds for innovative systems
  • Proficient in C / C++ development with a strong technical prowess
  • Skilled in Python or similar scripting languages
  • In-depth knowledge of real‑time operating systems and embedded control systems, including APIs, interfaces, and device drivers
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as UDP/TCP, I2C, UART, etc.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle and testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
Desired
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years in large‑scale engineering systems
  • Skilled in space vehicle software simulation integration
  • Proficient with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerization
  • Hands‑on with CI/CD pipelines, Git, GitLab, or GitHub
  • Strong debugging at the software‑hardware interface
  • Familiar with hardware emulation like Simics
  • Expertise in customizing continuous integration systems
  • Understanding of electrical and electronic engineering concepts
  • Solid grasp of IP networking
  • Competent in MATLAB and Simulink
  • Acquainted with GNC systems and 6DOF dynamics
  • Proficient with DOORs Next Generation, SVN, Jenkins
  • Active Top Secret/SCI desired
Base Pay Range

Base Pay Range for: WA applicants is $134,961.00 - $188,945.40 Other site ranges may differ.

Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre‑employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical.
