Ciena, a global leader in high-speed network infrastructure, seeks a Software Governance specialist to drive OSS licensing, policy, and AI governance across products. You will partner with engineering, product, and legal teams to ensure compliant and secure software usage.

The role focuses on governance frameworks, risk assessments, and transparent software inventory, with opportunities to expand into broader governance advisory work.

Qualifications

• Foundational understanding of open source software and licensing concepts, including common license types and obligations.
• Knowledge of basic software licensing principles, including open source and commercial licensing models.
• Practical experience with software development environments and processes, and governance, compliance, and security within the lifecycle.
• Basic understanding of AI technologies and governance considerations (responsible use, risk awareness).
• Awareness of emerging AI trends and architectures and their governance implications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with structured risk evaluations and documentation.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical/compliance topics to diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and build relationships.
• Self-motivated with a desire to grow into governance/advisory roles.

Responsabilités

• Review and approve SBOMs for products to identify OSS components and assess licensing, security, and IP risks.
• Partner with engineering and product teams to guide third-party, OSS, and proprietary software usage.
• Support identification and management of licensing, IP, security, and AI governance risks and mitigations.
• Maintain and improve Software Governance frameworks, processes, and tools for compliance.
• Contribute to policy development and best practices for Software Governance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure transparency in software inventory and disclosures.
• Build relationships across teams to promote awareness and adoption of governance practices.
• Develop expertise in software licensing, IP, and responsible AI use; track trends.
