Job summary

DICK’S Sporting Goods is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to join a product team and contribute to software design, development, and lifecycle of a user-facing product. The internship offers collaboration with experienced engineers, exposure to multiple product teams, and opportunities to learn about eCommerce and data engineering.

You will work on a team with opportunities to pair on development tasks, participate in testing, production monitoring, and configuration tasks.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in CS/SE/CE or Information Sciences & Technology or related field.
  • Enrollment in an accredited 4-year institution.
  • Graduation date between December 2027 through May 2028.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with UX, engineering, and product teams to build secure, reliable software solutions.
  • Write code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring, and tests.
  • Configure off-the-shelf solutions to meet evolving business needs.
  • Create dashboards, logs, alerts, and responses for proactive issue handling.
  • Participate in code reviews to learn best practices and patterns.
  • Work a 40-hour week, Monday–Friday.

And, while our broader Technology team works remotely from all over the United States, they provide virtual and in-person events for the team to hangout, from virtual escape rooms to cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates at beautiful PNC Park. As a DICK’S Sporting Goods Technology Intern, you will spend your Summer in Pittsburgh working at our Customer Support Center (our Corporate Office)! We follow a hybrid work schedule, in the office Tuesday – Thursday and working from home (your apartment) Monday and Friday.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER INTERN

The Software Engineer Intern will be placed on a product team and contribute to the software design, software development, and overall product lifecycle for a product that our users love. The engineering process is highly collaborative. Interns will have the opportunity to pair on as they work through user stories and support products as they evolve. In addition, interns may be involved in product configuration, performance tuning and testing as well as production monitoring. As a Software Engineer Intern, you will be part of a team with more experienced engineers to help build and grow your skills while you create, support, and deploy production applications. Potential placements include product teams in eCommerce, Fulfillment, Infrastructure, Technology Management, and Data Engineering.

DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborates and pairs with other product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions
  • Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases
  • Writes custom code or scripts to do “destructive testing” to ensure adequate resiliency in production
  • Configures commercial off the shelf solutions to align with evolving business needs
  • Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively
  • Monitors tools and participates in conversations to encourage collaboration across product teams
  • Reviews and discusses code from more senior engineers to understand best practices and design patterns
  • Increases business acumen by learning about other parts of the business

SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • Exposure to modern programming languages
  • Experience with Agile Development and knowledge on Agile Deployment tools and versioning using Git or similar tools
  • Experience in a Linux or Unix based environment

Internship Start Date: May 17th 2027 Internship End Date: July 29th 2027 Full-time opportunities in 2028: Interns qualified for full-time opportunities will be evaluated at the end of the program. Qualified interns will be placed as Software Engineers into a full-time technology development rotational program (Technology Development Program).
