Job summary

Salesforce, Inc. is hiring Database Distributed Systems Software Engineers to design and build scalable, resilient database systems for large-scale, distributed environments.

You will own architecture, implementation, monitoring, and product support for mission-critical data services. You will contribute to complex database features, optimize SQL in highly concurrent environments, and participate in on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong CS fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• 7+ years of software development in large-scale, distributed applications.
• Deep knowledge of database transaction management, concurrency control, isolation levels, and distributed transactions.
• Experience designing DB apps for high-volume data, including query tuning and performance analysis.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or PL/SQL, with a systems-level focus.

Salesforce is hiring Database Distributed Systems Software Engineers. You will work on highly concurrent, distributed systems that support Salesforce's growth. We're looking for people with a strong background in database internals, systems programming, and software engineering.

In this role, you will design and build scalable, resilient software products. You will own work from start to finish, including architecture, design, implementation, monitoring, testing, and product support for large, mission-critical systems. Your work will shape the future of Salesforce.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of complex database features. Focus on advanced transaction management that delivers performance, scalability, consistency, and reliability in distributed systems..
• Solve SQL execution challenges to enable transactionally consistent DDL on distributed database systems. Oversee schema evolution and versioning, with consistency and minimal disruption in highly concurrent environments..
• Optimize database operations at very large scale. Develop patterns for data integrity, consistency, and efficient data manipulation across distributed datasets..
• Build database services on AWS, GCP, or other public cloud platforms..
• Take part in the team's on-call rotation to resolve complex problems and keep services available..
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues in demanding production environments, with fast recovery and minimal disruption..
• Contribute to the roadmap for core database technologies and frameworks, and influence future architectural decisions..

Required Qualifications

• BS or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• 7+ years of software development experience, with significant focus on large-scale, database-intensive, distributed applications.
• Deep knowledge of database transaction management, including concurrency control, isolation levels, and distributed transactions.
• Experience designing database applications for high-volume, complex data operations, including query tuning and performance analysis for highly concurrent systems.
• Strong programming skills in at least one relevant language (for example, Java, Python, or PL/SQL), with a focus on systems-level programming for database interactions.

Preferred Qualifications

• MS or PhD in databases or distributed systems.
• PostgreSQL development experience, including open-source community contributions.
• Experience with the operational challenges and lifecycle management of large-scale distributed database systems.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (for example, AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (for example, Docker, Kubernetes) in production, database-focused settings.
• Knowledge of database performance tuning, monitoring tools, and observability patterns for distributed database systems.
• Experience with database-as-a-service platforms and their underlying distributed architecture.
