Job summary

Medtronic in Massachusetts is seeking a software engineering leader for the Affera Mapping and Ablation System. You will lead architecture, design, development, testing, and sustaining activities for complex medical device software.

The role requires coordinating across sites, regulatory compliance, and delivery of robust solutions, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, OR an Advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of medical product software development, IEC-62304, and FDA guidance, or experience in other highly regulated environments
• Program Management experience in a technical discipline or relevant software engineering experience

Responsibilities

• Lead software engineering teams responsible for architecture, design, development, testing, and sustaining activities for complex medical device software.
• Plan and execute release milestones, risk management, defect resolution, and continuous improvement while partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions for current and future product releases.
• Define, plan, organize, and coordinate software development deliverables across multiple sites in accordance with FDA and other regulatory requirements.
• Lead forecasting, effort estimation, resource planning, technical planning, execution, and release activities.
• Manage predictable project schedules and budgets
• Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing industry-standard software engineering development processes
• Apply software development methodologies, including Agile practices, to improve execution, collaboration, and delivery across the organization.
• Contribute to product strategy through project/product planning, roadmap input, and tradeoff analysis.
• Provide regular status updates for management and cross-functional review
• Ability to travel as needed

A Day in the Life

The Affera Mapping and Ablation System is an innovative medical technology designed to treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The system involves advanced mapping techniques to create detailed images of the heart's electrical activity, helping physicians identify abnormal areas causing arrhythmias. Once identified, the Affera Ablation System delivers targeted energy to disrupt these abnormal signals, restoring normal heart rhythm.

This position may be based in Mounds View, Minnesota or Newton, Massachusetts with a minimum on-site presence of 4 days a week.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, OR an Advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of medical product software development, IEC-62304, and FDA guidance, or experience in other highly regulated environments
• Program Management experience in a technical discipline or relevant software engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Detailed skill in organizing work for unstructured problems or execution tasks
• Ability to effectively interface and influence employees at different organizational levels
• Strength in working with cross-functional teams across facilities to solve problems
• Strong understanding of good documentation practices, software lifecycle processes, configuration management, and commonly used engineering management tools.
• Record of success in leading product development and/or process improvement projects
• Ability to work with Quality, Regulatory, Systems, Test, and other engineering partners to ensure software deliverables meet product, compliance, and business needs.
• Experience leading teams that develop complex software systems involving real-time performance, hardware integration, data visualization, or distributed system components.
• Strong work ethic and entrepreneurial drive
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
